ENROLLMENT INFORMATION:

Westminster Students:

■ Currently enrolled Westminster students do not need to apply for the summer session; simply register during online registration in March at www.my.Westminster.edu or during add/drop period beginning April 20- through May 29.

Students accepted to Westminster College for fall 2015:

■ First Year students accepted for Fall 2015 matriculation may apply for Summer Session using the form found at www.westminster.edu/admissions/summer/index.cfm

There is no application fee for current WC Students or WC Fall entering new students.

Visiting Students:

■ Students who are enrolled at another college or university must apply by using the enclosed summer session application or the online form found at www.westminster.edu/admissions/summer/index.cfm or by mailing the enclosed summer application to Graduate School & Adult Studies office located in McKelvey Campus Center, room 268.

■ There is a $35 one-time application fee which must be submitted by all new visiting students. Visiting students returning for a subsequent summer session do not have to pay an application fee again.

■ You will be registered as you requested as long as class space allows, and you will be contacted if there are any problems with your registration.

All course offerings are subject to change at the discretion of Westminster College. If a course does not have sufficient enrollment, it will be cancelled the week prior to the start of the term and students will be notified about making a change of registration. Pre-requisite course requirements (or permission of instructor) must be met for all courses with pre-requisites.

SUMMER SESSION FAQ

Where can I find information about my schedule, billing and classes?

All such student related information is posted on www.my.westminster.edu. Visiting students will be emailed log-in and password information to their personal email after they are registered.

Is there campus housing during the Summer Session?

Yes, housing is available in Berlin Village town house apartments during the Summer Session. All campus policies are in effect during the Summer Session. An additional form is required for housing. For the form and all housing request, please call the Office of Student Affairs at 724-946-7110.

How do I schedule an internship? (Westminster students only) Students planning to do a summer internship must:

■ Meet with advisor prior to the end of spring classes to plan your internship. (Faculty may not be available after the end of spring term.)

■ Pick up, complete and return the internship packet to the Career Center.

■ Register for internship in the Registrar’s office.

For more information or assistance, please call the Career Center at 724-946-6338. Internships are available to Westminster College students only. Education field experience/internships must be arranged through the Education Department.

When is the deadline to register for an internship?

The deadline to register for an internship is Friday, June 26, 2015.

When are grades available?

Summer School grades are available online at my.Westminster.edu in mid-August.

How do I transfer WC Summer credits to my College or University?

Please stop by the Westminster Registrar’s office to request a copy of your transcript to be sent to your College or University. There is a one time $50.00 transcript fee.

Am I able to change my schedule once classes have begun?

Yes, students who wish to change from one class to another may do so with no fee prior to the course meeting 6 clock hours. Please contact the Registrar’s office at 724-946-7138 to make any changes.

Is there a fee to add or drop a class?

Students may add/drop a class with no fee prior to completing 6 clock hours.Students may add a class with a $100 fee prior to the class meeting 9 clock hours.Students may drop a class with a $100 fee prior to completing 12 clock hours.

Blended Learning class

Students may add with a $100 fee before the third day after the first class meeting date.

Students may drop with a $100 fee before the fourth day after the first class meeting date.

How do I withdraw from Summer Session?

If you decide not to complete a Summer Session course after the add/drop times, you must withdrawal online at my.westminster.edu.

When will bills be available?

Bills will be available on my.westminster.edu after June15.

Are there any requirements to register for online or blended learning classes?

All students interested in taking a blended learning course must be in good academic standing. An official college transcript is required for students who are not currently enrolled or accepted to enroll at Westminster College.

CAMPUS SERVICES

Bookstore

The Westminster College Bookstore, located in McKelvey Campus center, will be open from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Textbooks will be sold beginning June 1 and may be shipped via UPS upon request by course number (ex. CHE 261). Students may call the Bookstore 724-946-7217 to order books for all classes. Books required for each course may be found at www.bookstore.westminster.edu/home.aspx.

Business Office

The Office of Business Affairs, located on the second floor of Old Main, is open for transactions Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 3:45 p.m.

Career Center

The Career Center, located in McKelvey Campus Center, assists Westminster students and alumni in planning and preparing for careers. For more information or assistance, please call the Career Center at 724-946-7339.

Computer Center

All enrolled summer session students will have a campus email account and access to network drives. After you are registered for class, login information will be emailed to new student’s personal email address. If you do not receive your network account information, please contact the LIS Call Center at 724-946-6000.

The Call Center, located on the first floor of McGill Library, should be contacted at 724-946-6000 with any computer or email problems.

Escort Service

An evening hour escort service from building to building and from building to parking lot is available by using the yellow emergency call boxes found in various locations on campus. Call ext. 7777 to connect with the campus security office.

Learning Center

The Learning Center does not maintain summer hours. Call the Graduate School & Adult Studies office at (724) 946-7353 to request for academic assistance.

Libraries

McGill Memorial Library hours are:

May 11 - August 28 Monday - Friday 9 am – 4 pm

Saturday - Sunday closed

Appointments may be made for additional times.

The libraries will be closed on Monday, May 25 and on Friday, July 3.

MAC Machine

For cash withdrawal only, a MAC Machine is located near the TUB food court on the 1st floor of the McKelvey Campus Center. Check cashing may be provided at the local banks:

Communications 320: Perspectives on Sports Media and Communication Corso

This course explores the complex and often overlooked dynamic of sports communication in today’s society and what we can learn about our cultural norms and values through sport. Since most of our exposure to sports is mediated through media (watching events on television, listening to sports talk radio, reading sports magazine, or surfing sports news websites), there will be special attention to how the media contributes to the ongoing discourse in this area. Drawing on theories of media and rhetorical criticism, this course will examine media’s role in telling the story of sports, and how telling that story shapes and reinforces cultural values. This is an online course.

Physics 141: Foundations of Physics I Caylor

The first three weeks of an introductory study of physics (mechanics, heat, electricity, magnetism, waves, light, and modern physics) without calculus. Some emphasis will be given to applications of physics to biological systems. A laboratory is included. Prerequisite: a good background in high school mathematics including algebra and trigonometry.

Physics 142: Foundations of Physics II Caylor

The second three weeks of an introductory study of physics (mechanics, heat, electricity, magnetism, waves, light, and modern physics) without calculus. Some emphasis will be given to applications of physics to biological systems. A laboratory is included. Prerequisites: PHY 141 or PHY 151

Physics 151: Principles of Physics I

Caylor

The first three weeks of an introductory study of physics (mechanics, heat, electricity, magnetism, waves, light, and modern physics). Some basic concepts of calculus may be introduced as needed. A laboratory is included. Co-requisite: MTH 150 or higher.

Physics 152: Principles of Physics II Caylor

The second three weeks of an introductory study of physics (mechanics, heat, electricity, magnetism, waves, light, and modern physics). Calculus methods will be used. A laboratory is included. Prerequisites: PHY 151; Co-requisite: MTH 152 or higher.

Theatre 101: Introduction to Theatre Jachimiak

An examination of the process by which dramatic literature becomes theatre. The course examines the forms of comedy, tragedy, and their offshoots as well as the elements of theatre – structure, character, language, scenography – and the styles of theatre with an emphasis on modernism and post-modernism. This course does not meet major requirements. This is an online course.

Religion 119: Religion in America

Hickman, L.

A study of the many religions which constitute America’s religious mosaic. Attention is given to American religious history from 1600 to present and to the ways in which religious pluralism relates to America’s commitment to a religious freedom and to America’s ongoing quest for unity amid this diversity. This course includes an emphasis on pacifist religious movements and may be counted toward a minor in peace studies.

Political Science 104: International Politics

Aleprete

A study of politics among states and other actors who affect global relations. Once establishing a background in the concepts used to analyze world politics, students will use these concepts to explore the Cold War era, the end of that system and several pertinent international issues in the areas of security, economics, and the environment.
