Oberlin’s Kade Brown took third place in the state Class 2A Golf Tour-nament at the Crestwood Country Club in Pittsburg last Monday.

Brown, a freshman, who has won medals in every tournament he has played this year, led the small Ober-lin squad all season.

Garrett Berry, a sophomore, came in 24th at the state meet after shoot-ing 42-44 for an 86. Brown shot 37-40 for a 77.

Oberlin did not have enough players to field a team for most of the season but players still could compete for individual honors and the team still was able to send two players to the state tournament.

“These guys had a fine season and played pretty well at the state tournament,” Coach Dick Ahlberg said. “If we could find a couple more players to go along with these two, we could have a competitive team at the state level.”

Pittsburg took first at state with a score of 314, followed by Syracuse 335, Nemaha Valley 341, Jayhawk-

Linn, 348, Trinity of Hutchinson 349, Lyndon 352, Belleville 355, Goessel 361, Plainville 361, Wa-Keeney 371, Atwood 388 and Stan-ton County 389.

The two Oberlin stars were named to the all-Northwest Kansas League team after the league tournament on May 14 in Colby.

At that event, Berry shot 39-42 for an 81 and Brown 43-39 for an 82 while Matt Wittman shot 56-59 for 115. Berry came in third and Brown fourth.

Ryley Haas of Colby won the league contest with a 68, followed by Patrick Loftus of Oakley with 79. Dylan Stithem, Colby, came in fifth with an 83, followed by Joel Linin, Goodland, 85; Rocque Russell and Paul Schifert, Colby, and Tyler Jones, Goodland, all 86; and Eric Linnell, Hoxie, 87.

Coach Ahlberg said that he would like to thank everyone for the sup-port they showed the team this year.

On Tuesdays and Thursday, the equipment is available from 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. to any student who wants to work out.
