I doubt there is anyone in the Club who is happier than I am to see Charles and Joni back on Oahu! The past three months for your VP were extremely jam-packed with

personnel-shortages at my day-job requiring everyone to assume more tasks than those in our job descriptions, and also taking on all of the things Charles does as the President to keep this club in the forefront of Oahu’s automobile culture. As I have previously stated, it really made me appreciate everything it takes to keep the CCOH viable.

October once again gave me an opportunity to marvel at the kindness, knowledge and skills of our members when INDY78 refused to start at the starting line of the Aloha Week Festival in early October. Ray never flinched and laid down in a rain-sodden parking lot to torment my unresponsive starter, ruining his parade finery and losing out on the chance to carry the two Chinese beauty queens in the process. He next dialed up Mike Horn, who was squiring at Corvette Drive and requested he come with a new battery and starter. The streets were all closed around the parade route which required Mike and Danielle to park some distance away and walk in with a new battery, starter and toolbox. Mike did the battery swap and voila, INDY78 was back in business.

Mike, Ray (and Danielle) have joined Dennis, Charles, and Gary as members who have helped me keep my 41-year-old car on the road, and I am extremely humbled. Kaoru gifted me with a roll-away tool chest (black, to match INDY78) and I have been accumulating tools which I hope will enable me to become a little more self-sufficient.

I am still awe-struck at the knowledge and willingness to help that our membership demonstrates. Thank YOU Guys so much!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Semper Vette, Jay (INDY78)

Well, your Vice-President Jay said that my vacation was over and I had to get back in the driver’s seat as your Club President again. LOL. I must say I really appreciate Jay for doing a great job in driving the Club forward when Joni and I were gone on vacation to the mainland. Yes, it is a lot of work to be on top of all the events, coordinate participation, send emails, texts and videos out to everyone. But the most challenging part is getting our members to respond to the emails or texts. It is difficult to plan when you are not sure how many Corvettes will show up. Therefore, please respond to our inquires and let us know how you are doing.

October was a busy month for the Club, and November to the end of the year promises to be the same. Several of our members are really looking forward to the Ewa Beach Railroad Museum train excursion with the Mustang, Shelby and 808 Camaro clubs on the 18th. Plus, we have a LOT of Holiday Parades and special events coming down the road that we will need your help with. To kick off the holidays, we are once again looking forward to Dennis and Gary T Annual Thanksgiving Day Sunrise event. If you have not experienced this awesome sunrise with us before then mark it on your calendar and join us. What an awesome way to start your Thanksgiving day! Anytime we can get out in our Corvettes as a group is fantastic!

It’s your Club Board Election time again. Two member’s positions (Editor and Secretary) are vacant and all of the seats are available to anyone wishing to run for elections. Board membership typically requires a few hours of prep work and an additional meeting each month. We are always looking for volunteers and Nominations will be taken at the November and December meetings. The elections are on Dec 3rd at the General Meeting. So please help as some of the board members would like to take a break. V/r Charles (CYBER)

Drop The Top In This Restored 1966 Chevy Corvette Roadster Motorious Amie Williams Oct 30, 2019

Classic Auto Mall is offering the perfect chance to snag this award-winning and meticulously restored 1966 Chevrolet Corvette Roadster. This particular example has been displayed in the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky, and scored a 97.3 out of 100 at the Corvette Nationals. It is safe to say that this Stingray is in tip-top shape. In car terms that could best be described as concours-worthy. This vintage beauty was displayed at the National Corvette Museum.

Slathered in a show-stopping Milano Maroon, the body of this vintage Vette retains all original chrome including the bumpers, rocker cover trim, hood bump vents, window surrounds, and badging. A set of 15-inch replica wheels sit on all four corners, and the original wheels and tires are available for an additional price. Protecting the cabin is a flawless black canvas interior top that is complete with a crystal clear plastic window.

While the exterior is stunning, lift the hood to expose its potent power plant. Powering this beautiful beast is a numbers-matching 427cui V8 engine topped with the correct Holley carburetor and intake manifold and capable of 425-horsepower. A numbers-matching 4-speed Muncie M21 transmission shifts power down to the rear axle stuffed with 4.11 gears. Everything under the hood, and including the underside of the hood, appears like new. Even the undercarriage is clean and structurally sound and features the original fiberglass tubs.

Open the doors or drop the top to reveal a showroom-quality interior complete with two bucket seats. A long center console houses the chrome shift lever, and perfect black carpet can be found throughout. The original steering wheel has been restored, and the door panels appear immaculate.

This car is the winner of the NCRS-Duntov Mark of Excellence Award and has passed the Performance Verification Test. Documentation regarding its beautiful restoration fills up two complete notebooks and is provided along with restoration photos on a disc.

If you are in the market for a show-worthy vintage Stingray, than contact Classic Auto Mall today about this '66 Stingray. This beaut is listed at $175,000, but feel free to make an offer.

Members of the Corvette

Club of Hawaii got a taste

of the Orient for our Oc-

tober monthly dinner at

the Ewa Pointe Chinese

Restaurant in the Ewa

Pointe Shopping Center,

Ewa Beach. It was actu-

ally chosen by popular

demand as the site for our

October Monthly Dinner.

Nestled in the cozy Ewa

District, the Ewa Pointe

Chinese Restaurant offers traditional Chinese cuisine at a reasonable price. Off-street parking is

plentiful, and there is a Baskin-Robbins right next door for dessert.

We had two large tables set aside for the CCOH Supper Club. The staff was oh so friendly and the

service was quick and efficient. Everyone seemed to thoroughly enjoy their family style meals which

came out of the kitchen extremely fast.

Those members who don’t reside in the Ewa Plain expressed a healthy dose of surprise at how heavy

the H1 West-bound traffic was, which is old-hat for the denizens of the West Side.

Members attend-

ing were,

Charles & Joni,

Ron and Fei,

Carlos & Pam,

Jay & Kaoru,

Ray, Scotty,

Dan, and Tim.

The next Monthly Dinner is November 19th at the Kobe Japanese Steakhouse in Waikiki with parking

behind the building. Please RSVP and we hope to see everyone there!

Ka'a (Car) Trivia “Car Stuff”

Aloha Kākou, Love to us all!. This is the year of Kamapua’a. In Hawaiian mythology, Kamapu-

a’a was a demigod who loved beauty, decadence and anything sexy. There is no doubt, in my

mind, his car of choice would have been a Corvette. Kamapua’a was a “lady’s man.” He was quite

the party animal who not only loved to love women but loved playing games. This year in keeping

with the spirit of things, ”Sidelines” decided to forego legends and join in the fun and games this

year advocates.

Instructions:

vertical or parallel. If on a

computer, highlight the

word using a text high-

lighting tool or, print this

puzzle out then circle

each word. Drawing a

line through it will also

do the trick.

As new members of CCOH, my wife (Diane) and I (Chuck) attended our first breakfast gathering and ride around the island. We had a wonderful time meeting club members, and we even renewed a few old friendships from years ago. We were so very im-pressed with the kindness, friendliness and enthusiasm of everyone. With a total of 32 people attending, and 20 Corvettes it was indeed a big adventure. The drive along

the coastline to Haleiwa couldn’t have been nicer — the weather was just about perfect. Plus, having a GMRS radio in our ’79 Corvette T-top (thanks to President Charles Owens) made the ride even more fun! Members could communicate with each other/everyone. Some even used their sense of humor to joke with Charles as we all rolled along toward Turtle Bay and beyond. Diane and I look forward to spending more time with the great "guys and dolls" in CCOH! And, as for my “new" Corvette, I plan to put many more miles on her over the next year. Special thanks go to my son and daughter-in-law (Justin and Terri) for surprising us recently with this wonderful retire-ment gift! Aloha to you, Charles! Take care, Chuck and Diane

BUILD SHEETS & WINDOW STICKERS Your Corvette just isn’t complete without a copy of your build sheet and a reproduction window sticker! The National Corvette Museum offers build sheets and window stickers for any Corvette assembled in Bowling Green since the GM Plant opened in 1981.

Build Sheets

There’s a lot of nifty paperwork associated with cars. Most people throw the stuff out shortly after buying their car but in some cases the original paperwork is still available with the car.

The Build Sheet, often considered “the holy grail” to many folks is a cool item to find. It is often the only means of verifying exactly what options came with your particular car, and helps you de-termine how many Corvettes were produced exactly like yours. The build sheet is what goes down the line with the car when it is being assembled. It indicates to the line worker exactly what goes on that specific car.

Build sheets vary in size from year to year, 8½ X 11 up to 11 X 17 and you have the option for it to be laminated.

PURCHASE A BUILD SHEET

Build Sheet (Paper) – $40 Members* / $50 Non-Members Additional Paper Copy – $12 Members* / $15 Non-Members Lamination – $5 each *eMemberships are excluded Notice: we are missing the following build sheets for 1982 – VIN numbers 109001 thru 117800, 118201 thru 118400, 119201 thru 119800.

Window Sticker

Also called a Monroney Label, this is the sticker that is affixed to a new car when it is delivered to the consumer. A law was passed by Congress in 1958 requiring all automobile manufacturers to affix a price label to all new automobiles showing Manufacturers Suggested Retail Prices for a ve-hicle and all options installed at the factory. This law was proposed by Senator John Monroney, and was to begin with new 1959 models.

If your car is a show car, this informational piece is a must! Some car shows such as Bloomington Gold require you to have a list of options on the car. What better way than a reproduction of the window sticker? If you are ordering a reproduction window sticker, you must order the build sheet at the same time.

PURCHASE A WINDOW STICKER

Current Window Sticker/Build Sheet Combo – $85 Member* / $100 Non-Members Additional Copy Window Sticker – $12 Members* / $15 Non-Members Lamination – $5

Celebrate, Celebrate Celebrate Trifecta of Corvette Bliss The Corvette Club of Hawaii has so much to celebrate this year. First and foremost, winning the coveted National Corvette Museum’s First Place Newsletter Award and the NCM’s First Place Social Media award. Our president and fearless leader, Charles Owens, truly deserves Kudos for his leadership and dedication which made these possible.

our Club has to celebrate and share with all Corvette members across the coun-try! CCoH takes pride and pleasure in sending out our congratulations to associate mem-bers Peter and Jeanne Botta of Lancaster,

Pennsylvania, who were the first couple to be married at the Bowling Green Kentucky Museum 25 years ago dur-ing the museum’s grand opening. Talk about 25 years of Corvette-mania and marital bliss. For the past umpteen years Peter managed to accumulate a slew of exotic cars: Rolls Royce’s, Bentleys, Prowlers, Mercedes, SSR, Nash Metropolitan, eight Model-A Fords and 28 cor-vettes ranging from 1953 to his newest acquisition, a 2019 White ZR-1, 7-speed. His collection of automobiles is amazing! It is a muse-um unto itself. When asked when his love of cars began, Peter spoke of his childhood and growing up in Brookville, Long Island, New York. His early memory of watching a huge cargo truck transporting an array of automobiles drive by the family Desoto with him in the backseat got him excited about cars. The sight of all the different cars ignited his imagination. But it was 1965 at the impressionable age of 16 that Peter fell in love for the first time. There she was in front of his house, a green 1965 C2 with a black interior! “First I thought, did my dad buy me a new car? Nope. It was my neighbor who bought it for his daughter Bonnie. Bonnie was real nice. She gave me my first Corvette ride. It changed my life forever.”

Peter traded in his1966 Mustang for a yellow 1966 C2 with a black interior. The rest is history. When asked what Cor-vette excited him the most, Peter replied “I just love the way they look! I get just as excited when buying model cars too!” He then spread his open hand around his double-decker garage, pointing to a slew of custom mounted acrylic model cases hanging on the walls displaying thousands of mini Corvette models. Peter has been collecting cars and memorabilia for over 45 years and 25 of them have been with his wife Jeanne. Peter would be the first to admit, Jeanne is surely the lubricating oil that drives his engine. While walking with Jeanne, I asked about their wedding at the National Corvette Museum (September 3, 1994) and what was most memorable on that day. She replied, “The grand opening was amazing! The place was so crowded; the National Guard had to part the crowds to let me in the Muse-um.” Reflecting in quiet wonder, Jeanne went on to say, “when our nuptials were being read, people who were visi-

tors and not a part of our family and wedding guests, stopped milling around until our nuptials were done.” Jeanne thoughtfully reflected in quiet and thankful wonder, “They were so respectful.” Both Peter and Jeanne were sincerely look-ing forward to greeting their friends and Corvette co-horts from Ha-waii to cele-brate their 25th wedding anni-versary at the Bowling Green Museum but unfortunately, Peter experi-enced a major engine failure and had to have a valve replaced. As the saying goes, “We make plans and God laughs.” When asked, so where do you go from here, Peter smiled, “2020 - 22, we’ll see! An Italian, a Scotsman, and a Chinese man are hired at a local construction site. The foreman points to a huge pile of sand and says to the Scotsman, "You're in charge of shoveling." Italian guy, "You're in charge of sweeping." And to the Chinese man, "You're in charge of supplies." The foreman then shrugs his beefy shoulders and says, "Now, I have to leave for a little while. I expect you guys to make a good dent in that pile of sand by the time I get back." A few hours later when the foreman returns, he sees that the pile of sand is still untouched. Pointing to the pile of sand,

the foreman turns to the Scotsman and asks, " Didn't I tell you to shovel that sand?" The Scotsman replies in his heavy brogue, "Aye, ye did, laddie, but I couldna get meself a shovel. Ye left the Chinee in charge of supplies, but I couldna find him!" The foreman then says to the Italian, "Why didn't you sweep any of it?" The Italian replies in a heavy accent, "I no gotta broom. You tella the Chinesea guy he inna charge of a supplies, but hea disappeara, and I couldna no finda him!" The foreman is really angry now and storms off toward the pile of sand, looking for the Chinese guy. Just then, the Chinese guy springs out from behind the pile of sand and YELLS, "SUPPLIES!!!" Ok, It is understood that some jokes may upset someone somewhere. But we would like to point out that; -- Some females jokes will upset some female but most of them will see the humor in it. -- Some guy jokes will upset some guys but most of them will see the humor in it. -- Some Blonde jokes will upset some Blondes but most of them will see the humor in it. -- Some Hawaiian jokes will upset some Hawaiians but most of them will see the humor in it. -- Some Chinese jokes will upset some Chinese but most of them will see the humor in it. -- Some Police jokes will upset some police officers but most of them will see the humor in it. -- Some Drunk jokes will upset some drinkers. Lol but most of them will see the humor in it. -- etc., etc. But my Doctor said that laughter is good medicine. So, if you are upset at what

you read in our newsletter then we invite you to submit your jokes to Hank for consideration to the editor.

Rules for getting older

1. It’s time to use the money you saved up. Use it and enjoy it. This is a time for you to enjoy some fun with your Corvette.

2. Stop worrying about the financial situation of your children and grandchildren, and don’t feel bad spending your money on yourself. You’ve taken care of them for many years, and you’ve taught them what you could. You gave them an education, food, shelter and sup-port. The responsibility is now theirs.

3. Keep a healthy life, without great physical effort. Do moderate exercise (like walking every day), eat well and get your sleep. It’s easy to become sick, and it gets harder to remain healthy. That is why you need to keep yourself in good shape and be aware of your medical and physical needs. Keep in touch with your doctor, do tests even when you’re feeling well. Stay informed.

4. Always buy the best, most beautiful items for your significant other. The key goal is to enjoy your money with your partner. One day one of you will miss the other, and the money will not provide any comfort then, enjoy it together

5. Don’t stress over the little things. You’ve already overcome so much in your life. You have good memories and bad ones, but the im-portant thing is the present. Don’t let the past drag you down and don’t let the future frighten you. Feel good in the now. Small issues will soon be forgotten.

6. Regardless of age, always keep love alive. Love your partner, love life, love your family, love your neighbor and remember: “A man is not old as long as he has intelligence and affection.”

7. Be proud, both inside and out. Don’t stop going to your hair salon or barber, do your nails, go to the dermatologist and the dentist, keep your perfumes and creams well stocked. When you are well-maintained on the outside, it seeps in, making you feel proud and strong.

8. Don’t lose sight of fashion trends for your age, but keep your own sense of style. There’s nothing worse than an older person trying to wear the current fashion among youngsters. You’ve developed your own sense of what looks good on you – keep it and be proud of it. It’s part of who you are.

9. ALWAYS stay up-to-date. Read newspapers, watch the news. Go online and read what people are saying. Make sure you have an active email account and try to use some of those social networks. You’ll be surprised what old friends you’ll meet. Keeping in touch with what is going on and with the people you know is important at any age.

10. Respect the younger generation and their opinions. They may not have the same ideals as you, but they are the future, and will take the world in their direction. Give advice, not criticism, and try to remind them that yesterday’s wisdom still applies today.

11. Never use the phrase: “In my time.” Your time is now. As long as you’re alive, you are part of this time. You may have been younger, but you are still you now, having fun and enjoying life.

12. Some people embrace their golden years, while others become bitter and surly. Life is too short to waste your days on the latter. Spend your time with positive, cheerful people, it’ll rub off on you and your days will seem that much better. Spending your time with bitter peo-ple will make you older and harder to be around.

13. Don’t abandon your hobbies. If you don’t have any, make new ones. You can travel, hike, cook, read, dance. You can adopt a cat or a dog, grow a garden, play cards, checkers, chess, dominoes, golf. You can paint, volunteer or just collect certain items. Find something you like and spend some real time having fun with it.

14. Even if you don’t feel like it, try to accept invitations. Baptisms, graduations, birthdays, weddings, conferences. Try to go. Get out of the house, meet people you haven’t seen in a while, experience something new (or something old). But don’t get upset when you’re not invited. Some events are limited by resources, and not everyone can be hosted. The important thing is to leave the house from time to time. Go to museums, go walk through a field. Get out there.

15. Pain and discomfort go hand in hand with getting older. Try not to dwell on them but accept them as a part of the cycle of life we’re all going through. Try to minimize them in your mind. They are not who you are, they are something that life added to you. If they become your entire focus, you lose sight of the person you used to be.

16. If you’ve been offended by someone – forgive them. If you’ve offended someone - apologize. Don’t drag around resentment with you. It only serves to make you sad and bitter. It doesn’t matter who was right. Someone once said: “Holding a grudge is like taking poison and expecting the other person to die.” Don’t take that poison. Forgive, forget and move on with your life.

17. If you have a strong belief, savor it. But don’t waste your time trying to convince others. They will make their own choices no matter what you tell them, and it will only bring you frustration. Live your faith and set an example. Live true to your beliefs and let that memory sway them.

18. Laugh. Laugh A LOT. Laugh at everything. Remember, you are one of the lucky ones. You managed to have a life, a long one. Many never get to this age, never get to experience a full life. But you did. So what’s not to laugh about? Find the humor in your situation.

19. Take no notice of what others say about you and even less notice of what they might be thinking. They’ll do it anyway, and you should have pride in yourself and what you’ve achieved. Let them talk and don’t worry. They have no idea about your history, your memories and the life you’ve lived so far. There’s still much to be experienced, so start experiencing and don’t waste time thinking about what others might think. Now is the time to be at rest, at peace and as happy as you can be!

REMEMBER: “Life is too short to drink bad wine and warm beer.”
