Thomas Armour Youth Ballet December 2014

Over 400 students participated in TAYB’s 8-week summer program across its five sites. Students took daily ballet and tap classes and conducted weekly enrichment projects from our World History Through Art & Culture Curriculum covering the period of 1950-present. Participants were able to showcase their improvement through end of summer neighborhood presentations. Feedback collected through parent/student surveys during these performances was very positive and quantified the value of our programming. The 2014-2015 school year has been one of our most successful yet in terms of recruitment! Three out of four outreach sites continue to be at capacity, with wait lists. Students are currently receiving ballet, tap and modern classes multiple times per week depending on their age and level. An overwhelming number of students graduated from the outreach programs after the summer program and are now receiving training at the South Miami site. THANK YOU for making this possible!

Since it’s inception in 2011 under the leadership of TAYB’s tap teacher, Natasha Williams, and with only 8 students

from across TAYB’s five sites, the Tap Team has become a

sought after community performing group. Now

comprised of 20 students, the tap team has performed in

numerous community venues including a TEDex Talk and

The Wynwood Arts Walk. These young tappers teach us

that hard work, discipline and focus pays off. They meet

every Sunday in addition to their regular classes to

practice technique, choreography, music theory and

improvisation. We cannot wait to see what they will do

this year! For updates on our tap team please follow us on

Facebook or Instagram!

2. Thanks to your support, 18 TAYB students traveled, last summer to NYC, to attend some of the most prestigious dance intensives in the US.

Two TAYB pieces received recognition:

• The Tap Team was a finalist. • Students, Monica Delgado and Annie

Wright won first place.

Students were not only able to experience the “real dance world” first hand, but they also gained skills that helped them grow as individuals. Every one of them came back with unique experiences to share and lessons learned.

+ 4. Sensory Friendly Nutcracker In collaboration with New World School of the Arts and guidance from the Miami Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs and its All Kids Included Program (AKI), TAYB presented a Sensory Friendly performance of the Nutcracker Ballet for families of children within the autism spectrum. Adjustments were made before, during and after this performance to ensure the comfort of the children and the families who are, in many cases, unable to attend a traditional performance.

Through this effort and your support, TAYB has become a leader in the local arts community, making the arts accessible to all children.
