How kids get to school all over the world Su Yongjian, from Beijing Chaoyang Foreign Language School, started taking a school bus to school this September. The school bus looks like a tourist bus. It takes Su about 40 minutes to get to school. “It’s more convenient ( 方便的 ) than the subway. It saves a lot of time,” the 12-year-old said. Nowadays, school buses are becoming more popular in China. In Chongqing, there will be 3,000 yellow school buses on the road by the end of this year, according to Xinhua News Agency. In the US, yellow school buses are a common way for children to get to school. There are about 480,000 school buses in the country, according to the American School Bus Council (ASBC). However, there are not many school buses in the UK. Students from public schools usually walk or take buses or the subway to school. There are some school buses in private( 私营的 ) schools, but they are not yellow. In Japan the school districts are small in cities. So there is no need to use school buses. Children usually walk to school. Some students living in rural (乡村的) areas go to school by bus or train. In some places where the weather is bad, such as Iceland, children go to school in a special car. The car looks like a jeep. It can drive over thick ice. And, on the islands next to Washington State in the US, some kids even take a boat to school.
