Army Family Team Building is a volunteer-led organization with a centraltenet: provide training and knowledge to military spouses and soldiers topromote self-reliant and successful military families that support the totalArmy effort and mission.

Level I is the heart of our program and is designed primarily for familymembers new to the military. It provides basic “survival skills” andknowledge that can assist them in adapting to a military environment.

Level II is designed for military family members who are interested ingaining life skills, personal development and enhancing ones resume.

Level III develops leadership abilities and enhances family member’scurrent skills. These classes are generally for the “more experienced”family members, community volunteers, and leaders.

The Deployment Readiness class is focused and designed for preparingyou, the Army spouse, for a long term deployment. It strives to provideknowledge and awareness of available resources, information, strategicmethods and ideas on how to make a deployment more manageableand less stressful.

THE NORTHWEST ADVENTURE CENTER  offers “how-to” clinics (hunting and fishing) and holdsadventure trips such as white water rafting, sea kayaking and salt-water fishing. Visit our sales store for 

all of your hunting and fishing gear as well as licenses. The center also has a five-star PADI SCUBA

ACS Volunteer CorpsVolunteers are an important asset for ACS. They work in a variety of ACS programs togain work experience and to improve workplace skills. Individuals can work inRelocation, Financial Counseling, Family Services, Commissary Shopping Class, or inadministrative support of other functions. ACS pays free childcare.

Deployment/Mobilization Readiness ProgramSoldiers and family readiness are inseparable in today’s Army. Soldiers cannot functionto the best of their ability when they are worrying about their families back home. ThisACS program assists commanders to develop meaningful, well-developed, family careplans. ACS provides instructors to present briefing o a variety of subjects related todeployment and readiness issues.

Army Emergency Relief (AER)Emergency financial assistance for rent, food, utilities, essential travel, medical, dentalbills, care repairs, and funeral expenses. After hours assistance is available by calling967-0015 (Field Officer of the Day). Additional assistance is available through theRegional Red Cross Emergency Center, located at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, by calling 1(877) 272-7337.

AER is not authorized to assist with marriage or divorce costs, ordinary leaves orvacations, payments for consolidation of debts, business ventures, civilian courtfees/fines, comfort or luxury items, abortions, funds to replace overdrawn bank accounts,or continuing assistance.

Life Promotion, Life Protection, Life Preservation – Suicide Prevention

The Fort Lewis Office of Suicide Prevention is organized and dedicated to the study andprevention of suicide. We are primarily an educational and advocacy organization anddo not provide suicide counseling to individuals. We do provide emergency first-aidsuicide intervention training and support to those who might be at risk to suicide. Formore information call the Office of Suicide Prevention, (253) 966-4597. The BehavioralHealth Clinic at Madigan Army Hospital provides counseling and support services. Call253-968-2700 for more information.
