The Big Bull

Tom lives on the land. His mother and father have a farm. One day Tom went for a walk. It was a fine day but it had been raining in the night, so he took a bucket with him. He was looking for mushrooms. He did not find and sat down for a while on top of a hill. When Tom came home he had no bucket. He knew that he had left it on the hill. Tom went back to find it. When he came to a fence, he saw one of his dad’s large red bulls. Tom was not sure of this bull. “It might chase me,” he said to himself. “It might not let me go up the hill.” So Tom went home. His dad came back with him. By then the bull was gone. They saw the lost bucket. They picked it up. He was glad that they had found it.

Mary’s Hen

Mary is from Dubbo. Her house is not in the main street. One day her brother gave her a baby chick for her birthday. To begin with, it was all fluffy and yellow. She kept it in a box until it grew white feathers. Mum said that the chick was now a hen. Her dad then made a little pen in the backyard. Mary called her hen “Libby”. Every morning Mary gives Libby some wheat or corn. She fills up a dish and takes the food out into the yard. Libby is let out of her pen and thenMary throws the food for Libby to pick up. Peck! Peck!
