Vale Renegades
2 2018 Warhammer 40K Battle League
Event Details
Welcome
It is with great pleasure that I can introduce the return of the Vale Renegades battle league. This is the 4th
iteration of the battle league and hopefully will be the best one yet with a really flourishing edition in 8th
for us
to get our teeth in to. Please take the time to read through this pack and the accompanying mission pack very
carefully and we hope to see you on the battlefields!
Format
The Battle League and Big Bash Cup will be 2000 points and will run Warhammer 40K Matched play straight
out of the book with some minor changes as shown below.
In a mission that requires objective markers you must use markers that are no bigger than 2” in
diameter. Additionally, when measuring distances to objectives use the full size of the marker rather
than just the centre of the marker.
Terrain must be setup using 1 of the 3 random layouts we have provided in the mission pack. The
layout is determined randomly, usually by rolling a D3 and using the number rolled. If both players
wish to add more terrain then that is ok, this requirement is just a minimum requirement.
Battle League
The battle league will have a window of just over 15 weeks to play all of your fixtures. The season will be split
in to two halves, in the case of an odd number of games the higher amount will be in the first half of the
season. These fixtures and any results submitted will be shown on the club website along with all the other
information you will need to take part in the league and cup. Follow this link to get to the battle league
webpage.
The battle league will consist of a few divisions (the amount depends on exact numbers and will hopefully be
finalised before the list submission deadline) with a maximum of 8 players in each division and the players
divided evenly in to those divisions. Where a player will be placed will depend on last year’s placings and for
new players their player skill will be estimated and they will be placed where the organisers deem appropriate.
Each division will have promotion and relegation with the top 2 promoted and the bottom 2 relegated from
each division (unless promotion or relegation is impossible). This will then be used for the following year’s
battle league.
Big Bash Cup
The big bash cup is a knockout cup played alongside the league. There will be set deadlines (see schedule) to
play your games by and then the draw for the next round will be made. Please ensure you play and submit
your scores as early as possible within the windows to avoid any delays. The round deadlines are shown in the
schedule later in this document.
The big bash cup is win/loss format and does not use hobby scores, players’ will only need to inform the
organiser of the winner and loser via the normal results submission method (send it to the club email). It will
have all players entered in to it and a random draw carried out for every round.
The International Tournament Circuit
This event is an ITC registered event and thus is awarding ITC points depending on your final standing in the
leagues. Please ensure you provide the email address that you want to use to score ITC points when
submitting your list. For more information about the ITC please follow this link: ITC.

Army Selection
Army Composition
The battle league will be using the ITC army composition rules and FAQ’s found using this link: ITC Tournament
Format and FAQ’s. The full GW FAQ’s will be in use and are found within the ITC FAQ as a further link, we will
have a cut-off date for any FAQ’s or rules releases which will be the same date as the list submission deadline
Monday 21st
May.
Army List Submission
All lists must be submitted to [email protected] on or before Midnight on Monday 21st
May in the
army list submission format shown below (this format makes my job easier so please follow it entirely).
There are 4 sections for the league and cup where players can use a different list in each section. These
sections are:
1. 1st
Half of the League - first half of league games rounding up.
2. 2nd
Half of the League - second half of league games rounding down.
3. Early Rounds of the Cup - 1/2nd
rounds.
4. Late Rounds of the Cup - Finals.
You must label each list as shown in the list submission section with one of the above labels. If you are using a
list for multiple sections then ensure you label it as such to avoid any confusion.
Players List Checking
Due to the increased cost and demand that comes with checking lists in 8th
edition, this year we will instead be
publishing the lists as soon as possible during the week after the submission deadline, and asking the players
to do the checking for us. We will setup a forum thread to post any errors found, and if any errors are found
Vale Renegades
4 2018 Warhammer 40K Battle League
then the person responsible must be tagged and the error explained. Then that player responsible must
explain the error and resubmit if necessary to the list submission email.
I understand this may be a little different than normal but the release schedule and cost included with that
schedule has meant that checking lists for larger numbers of players is almost impossible for a small group of
people, let alone one person.
Army List Submission Format
Army lists should be typed up using Microsoft Word with all space formatting removed. Please ensure that
they are submitted exactly the same as per the example shown below:
Please title the email as follows: “Warhammer 40K, 2018 Battle League Division 1, John Smith”

Modelling and Painting Requirements
All models can be painted or unpainted, but there are bonus points awarded to players who use fully painted
armies. Clear bases such as those found on skimmer models do not have to be painted and/or based in order
to count as finished.
All models are expected to be WYSIWYG to a reasonable standard (exceptions will be made for themed units
or armies) and using the bases provided when purchased. Using a proxy model is not allowed. Using a
reasonable substitute to “Counts As” another model, does not violate our policy.
When using detachments in your army that contain models with different <Bracket> Faction keywords, then
they must be easily distinguished from other, similar faction models. Example: Your army has a detachment of
White Scars Adeptus Astartes and a detachment of Ultramarines Adeptus Astartes. The models in these
different detachments must be easily identified by your opponent. An example of this would be painting the
White Scars white and the Ultramarines blue so your opponent can easily identify which units belong to which
detachment. It is not acceptable to have an army with multiple detachments of Space Marines painted in the
same scheme wherein some of them are using different <bracket> faction keywords.
Gaming + Scoring
Missions
The missions in use are shown in the battle league mission pack. When the fixtures are revealed each fixture
will have a mission number attached to it which MUST be used when playing that fixture. In the case of cup
games you must randomly determine which mission will be used from the mission pack.
Time Management
Players must try to finish their games with a proper conclusion. This cannot be monitored in person but we will
have a complaint system in place. If you find a player intentionally slow playing in order to run out of time at
your local gaming store or having to leave early with the game not properly finished, then send an email to
[email protected] informing the organiser of the issue. Of course resolving the matter with that
person should be your first priority but this is the last resort if the discussion does not solve the issue.
For every complaint a player will receive a point deduction equal to a full game win. A deduction will only be
applied once the issue has been discussed by the organiser, the person who made the complaint and the
person at fault.
Submitting Scores
The mission pack will explain how you score your missions and must be read carefully to ensure you score
them correctly. Every mission will end in a final battle point score which you should record on your scoresheet
and send to the organiser at this email address: [email protected]. Please ensure you send your
hobby scoresheets as well as your gaming scoresheets. Failure to send both once will be chased up, but twice
will result in a 0 score on the forgotten scoresheet recorded for both players concerned.
Summary of Points
Area Maximum
Gaming 20 per fixture
Hobby 10 per fixture
List Submission 20 (5 per list section)
Vale Renegades

Gaming Points
The battle point scores you record on your scoresheets provided in the mission pack will translate straight over
to league points along with a bonus for winning, drawing and even losing. These bonuses are:
Result League Points
Win 5
Draw 3
Loss 1
This means that a player can achieve a maximum score from each game of 25 and a minimum score from each
game of 1.
Hobby Points
The hobby scoring will be broken down in to categories that must be scored along with your gaming
scoresheet after every game you play in the league (excluding cup games). A hobby scoresheet will be
provided in the mission pack.
The 3 categories are painting, sportsmanship and gaming etiquette. These sections will have yes and no
questions that you will fill in and submit to the organiser along with your gaming scoresheet. Every question if
ticked yes will score your opponent 1 hobby point each. Please take the time to read these sections carefully
because it is important that these are scored properly. You are not obligated to show your opponent what you
have scored them and in fact we encourage you not to, though you can discuss or ask those questions if it will
help you fill in your hobby scoresheet.
Prizes
The following prizes will be on offer at this event:
Award Description
Division Champion Each division winner
Division Runner-up Second place in each division
Division Wooden Spoon Bottom placed player in each division
Hobby Hero Highest hobby score overall across all divisions
Dependant on numbers we will have other prizes on offer which will be added to this list
End of League Presentation
Big Bash Cup Final
The end of league presentation will have the Big Bash cup final take place just before the final awards evening.
This will be a timed 3 hour game with both finalists expected to have arrived by 6pm at the very latest
(preferably earlier) in order to have the presentation take place at 9pm at worst. If this is impossible then
other arrangements will be made but this is the intended end to the season so efforts to make it happen
would be greatly appreciated.
Those not playing in the cup final we still encourage to come down and play casually or if not make sure they
are present at the very least for the awards ceremony.
Live Stream
The cup final will also be streamed live on twitch or YouTube via Firestorm Games to make it even tenser for
those who have done well enough to make it that far.
40K Quiz
If we have enough people turn up then we will have a quiz for people to take part in during the evening before
the presentation. This will be announced closer to the presentation date.
