Globally 1 in 8 people don’t have access to clean, safe water

The problems don’t stop at having nothing to drink, children across Africa have to walk an average of 5 hours a day to find water.

And often this is what it looks like.

Fancy a drink?

Would you drink the water in this picture? –

Even if you were really thirsty?

Page 4: Water Day Presentation for Secondary Schools

Is it fair that globally an average of 40 billion

hours a year is wasted fetching water?

Self Help Africa doesn’t think so and is working hard to give rural families access to that vital necessity that so many of us take for granted

Poor Sanitation affects 2.5 Million people.

Having water to wash your hands can reduce diarrhoeal diseases by 47%.

This means families are healthier and can do the things we take for granted – work, play, go to school.

Self Help Africa provides families with a safe,

clean supply of water

Just one large well can give over 2000 people safe water

Page 7: Water Day Presentation for Secondary Schools

Last year 15,000 people were able to drink clean water at our projects

One Water

One Water is a great new charity that gives all the profits from the sale of its bottled water to build wells in Africa. The water is drawn up by children playing on a roundabout – so the children can play while bringing water to their communities.

One Water

One Vitamin Water will soon be on sale – and the profits will go to Self Help Africa. Keep an eye open for the drinks in the Co-Op, Morrisons, Tesco, Waitrose and Total Petrol Stations – buying it will save lives.

Walk that extra mile

Why not make Self Help Africa your class’s chosen charity and ask your head teacher if you can run some

fundraising events – have a non-uniform day, run a jumble sale, sell cakes around

the school. You can even get a One Water vending machine installed!

Help us to save even more lives
