I recently took a part time job as a freelance web content writer for a SEO
(Social Engine Optimization) company, the Optimize X, Inc. while I was looking
for a job in December 2014. For a week as a freelancer from home, I’ve written
blog posts for the company’s client websites, which are about human interests
and lifestyle, security and surveillance, and health issues.
Drone Camera: The First Peek from the Bird’s-eye View By Joshue Concha
Want to see the top of the Empire State Building without you having to go up? Well technology could
just fly you above everywhere you wish. With the right and legal permissions to use one, you are
entitled to capture the world scene through Drone Cameras.
Originally used for aviation and military purposes, drone cameras catch the attention of visual media
and aircraft hobbyists today. How did drone cameras fly its way to the top anyway?
Before the era of a drone camera, comes a drone, also known as Unmanned Aerial Vehicle or
Unpiloted Aerial Vehicle (UAV), and Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPA), which is basically an aircraft
without a human pilot aboard. It was introduced by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO)
and it’s controlled by a pilot just through computers or remote controls.
Drones are mainly for military applications like special operations, to police operations, to residential
problems inspections. But the current trend and necessities of the society pushed the drone to
reinvent itself.
Without a Pilot, but With a Camera
A drone camera, from the name itself, is a lightweight, unmanned aircraft fitted with camera. When
flown above different heights, one can barely hear its engine – perfect for surveillance purposes.
However, its military, industrial and civil capacity arises with its popularity among photographers, film-
makers, and travel hobbyists. From using kites, pigeons and rockets, these media enthusiasts
eventually discovered the perks of having a drone camera over their heads with a first person view
piloting.
May it be to the ground, through a tree, or above with the wind, other drone cameras have Global
Position System (GPS) to create stability and capture clear photographs.
Flyer’s License
But using drone cameras is not easy as one-two-three click. There are countries wherein the Federal
Aviation Administration (FFA) strictly selects which users have the legal permission to use such.
Complying with the laws regarding privacy and data protection is a must for drone cameras are too
high-tech to be involved in different intentions.
The FFA must inspect each flight of the drone cameras, operated by a technician with a pilot’s license ,
and must not fly higher than 400 feet. There was this exhibition game at the Bank of America Stadium
in August 17, 2014, wherein a Charlotte-Mecklenburg police saw a drone camera, flew above it and
detained its user. The owner was then released after stating the reason of such detainment.
This owner didn’t have the go-signal from the FFA, unlike the DHL, the German logistics company in
Europe, which is permitted to deliver supplies to residents using drone cameras. Some known
companies are applying for authorization like the Amazon, for drone-delivery service, and Google, for
“self-flying vehicle” tests in Australia.
Film-making companies are receiving responses from FFA about using drone cameras in certain movie
and television sets, hoping for a great motion picture experience. But industries like news media and
online retailing, real estate, agriculture and energy don’t get a hard time to be permitted on using
drone cameras.
Drone cameras are slowly taking steps to make drone cameras legally fly over people, with the right
purposes.
Security and Surveillance from a Higher Perspective
It was expected that there will be 10, 000 drone cameras flying in the skies of America for the next ten
years, with different purposes. But most of the people predict that these drone cameras are meant to
be friends with CCTV cameras, for security and surveillance. One could imagine a place with less
violent and criminal acts because drone cameras are flying over the suspicious people, autonomously
looking after others.
Survivorship Care: Staying as a Cancer Survivor By Joshue Concha
Everyone’s capable of being diagnosed with cancer. As they say, cancer doesn’t choose who to hit or
not to hit. Once diagnosed, various sickness and pain are present to challenge your whole being’s
capabilities to conquer all. The battle of the one suffering is such an inspiration, and surviving cancer is
both a miracle and a blessing.
Celebrities like Lance Armstrong and Suzane Somers fought and survived their battles with cancer
along with the 14.5 million cancer survivors as of this year. It’s a great improvement, knowing that the
number of cancer patients from 3 million in 1971 has increased to 13.7 million today.
However, surviving cancer isn’t the end of the battle yet, for there are still issues that cancer survivors
have to be aware of. Aside from the risk of having new cancer, the side-effects of their previous
treatments to their physical, psychological and social roles and functions have a lot of work to do to
get you back to normal.
How to stay a survivor? Here are some practical and medical tips to help you fight the battle without
the fear of losing.
Post-treatment Care for Long-term Health
Cancer survivors can have their long-term health by doing “follow ups,” staying in touch with their
doctors and having post-treatment or survivorship care. According to the research co-chaired by
Barbara L. Andersen, PhD and Julia Howe Rowland, PhD of the American Society of Clinical Oncology
(ASCO), neuropathy, fatigue and depression, and anxiety are the symptoms that may affect the cancer
survivors.
By applying the following, a cancer survivor will have long-term health and will stay as a survivor:
Exercising. It increases and speeds your recovery by having improved mood, caused by
improved sleep, confidence, strength and endurance, and decreasing the symptoms that are
mentioned above. The most recommended is exercising for 30 minutes for five or more days a
week.
Balancing diet. The main food groups that must be on your plate are carbohydrate-rich ones like fruits,
vegetables and whole grains. Proteins come from lean meats, eggs, legumes and the like. Healthy fats
are omega-3 fats. Eat these daily for a healthy state.
Maintaining healthy weight. Sure is that gaining or losing too much weight will be clearly seen after
surviving cancer. And to look like and stay as a survivor, you must not look like you still suffer from
cancer. It’s best to consult your doctor for a proper program to maintain a healthy weight.
The ASCO release such proven clinical guidelines to make survivorship care a success. Here are its three
guidelines to avoid such symptoms:
“Managing Chemotherapy-Induced Peripheral Neuropathy.” This type of neuropathy comes from
certain chemotherapy that contains medication such as taxanes, vinca alkaloids and platinum drugs.
Treatments offering duloxetine and other medication to select patients such as tricyclic
antidepressants, gabapentin, and a topical gel containing baclofen, amitriptyline, and ketamine could
be tested.
“Screening and Management of Fatigue in Adult Cancer Survivors.” Primary fatigue treatments and
managements through screening and assessment are offered to adult cancer survivors. Screening must
be done from the point of diagnosis until the survival. Keep your doctor aware of your fatigue history,
status and factors that may prevent you from it. Physical endeavors, psychological interventions and
mind-body interventions must be planned well while the cancer survivor keeps himself knowledgeable
about every aspect of having cancer-related fatigue.
“Anxiety and Depression Management in Adults with Cancer.” Depression has such a big effect on
cancer survivors for their emotional state greatly affects the increase in their physical health problems.
Be evaluated for a certain schedule and the doctor should document and record every detail. Be aware
about the causes and effects of being depressed and the ways on how to manage and reduce its
possibilities. Just like what the program offers for fatigue management, depression management also
requires psychological, psychiatric and psychosocial interventions.
The Battle Worth Surviving for
Yes, surviving cancer is such a relief and a freedom to be grateful about. But being a survivor may or may not be
long-term if you are not aware of the post-treatment care and ways you should be taking. Being diagnosed and
bombarded by various treatments make you used to it, so having post-treatment or survivorship care is just a
piece of cake to you as survivor.
Through your own ways, with your doctor’s ways, battling and surviving cancer not only gives you healthy mind
and body, but also your view about living with everything that makes life worth the hardships in your battle.
Be Sensitive about having Tooth Sensitivity during the
Winter Season By Joshue Concha
December feels mean the holiday season meets the winter season. Kids find it fun to play snow fights
and build snow men, but the shift from moderate to extreme cold may affect their teeth and they may
not enjoy winter that much.
The most common case that the dentists receive from their patients is the tooth sensitivity, caused by
cold weather like the winter season. Being exposed and unprepared (worst is if the teeth isn’t healthy)
to the season would cause severe sensitivity as painful as the intake of hot and cold foods. Studies
show that tooth sensitivity affects one out of four people, which means 45 million adults – ages 25-45
– in the United States, and 10 million of it being affected by it continuously.
The Root and the Fruit for Such Sensitivity
The painful and sharp feeling caused by sensitivity has been experienced by most of the people
because of the cold foods, drinks and winter air. Aside from these unavoidable causes, serious tooth
sensitivity usually happens when gums recede as gum tissues are being reduced due to wrong oral
hygiene. This will then result to exposure of tooth roots, known as gingival recession, and theses roots
lead directly to the tooth nerve or tooth’s pulp; thus, causing such sensitivity.
Tooth sensitivity is often caused by wrong oral hygiene in which one is unaware that these simple
deeds may lead to severe pain overtime. Other than having dental health problems, here are the ones
that cause it especially during winter season:
Eating and drinking of hot and cold foods and beverages.
Enamel destruction caused by eating acidic foods.
Too much pressure on brushing the teeth, which remove the gum tissue.
Poor oral hygiene, leading to build-up of plaques, which eventually turns into tartar. The
bacteria from it will then cause gum disease and recession.
Grinding of teeth.
People with sense sensitivities, such as sense of sight, hearing, taste, smell and touch usually
experience tooth sensitivity.
Aging goes along with gum recession over time.
Knowing that this poor oral hygiene was just caused by the lack of discipline among people, it’s fair to
say that these could be avoided instantly with these tips:
During winter, stay inside your home to avoid the cold air.
Avoid hot and cold foods and beverages.
Avoid highly acidic foods and drinks such as citrus and soda.
Have a discipline of not grinding your teeth.
Brush your teeth gently using soft brush as well as your gum line to avoid bacteria build-up.
Brushing for about two to three minutes is recommended instead of the usual 30-45 seconds.
Apply sensitive toothpaste when brushing your teeth daily. This could block the root pores in
the tooth surface. Try rinsing it not that thoroughly after brushing for the toothpaste to linger
for a long time.
After brushing with sensitive toothpaste, a special fluoride gel is also recommended as
prescribed by your dentist, which can be applied onto your gums.
With the help of your dentist, placing conservative bonded fillings on the exposed root could
help make nerves unreachable.
If the gum or gingival recession is too severe, consult a periodontist, a gum specialist.
Yes, tooth sensitivity is often experienced during winter season, giving you a hard time doing what you
must do for you suffer from severe pain. But these tips aren’t only recommended when one is already
experiencing one, for it is a must for a daily basis – regardless of what season it is.
Untreated tooth sensitivity may result to permanent pulp damage, which is very costly compared to
these simple and cheap tips. For your child to enjoy the winter season, teach him these tips and it will
be his oral hygiene until he grows old.
Towel’s Color Vibrancy: How to Keep it Alive for Long By Joshue Concha
A great interior requires a lot of planning and choosing of the right pieces of furniture and fabrics from
the ceiling to the floor. And one of the current trends in decoration is the choice of which towel colors
and designs look good and give accents at the backdrop of a bathroom, bedroom, and other areas.
However, these towels are more prone to be dirty and stained in every use. Moreover, its designs and
colors will be greatly affected when washed and cleaned in the wrong way. How to keep its vibrant
color the way it has to be? The means are just simple and cheap.
More TLC for Colored Towels
In washing such colored towels, one might be surprised about knowing that these towels require
different attention from that of colored clothes. Towels are made of different fabrics and fibers that
could be prolonged if washed in these ways:
Follow what’s in the “care label.” Check the instructions in the care label of each towel, for it is
made up of different fibers and fabrics; thus, different care types are required.
Five to seven uses are enough for a go-signal to wash the towels. People are fond of using
towels everyday and it’s clear to see that germs and its smell would be worsen if not washed at
least until its seventh use.
Don’t just separate dark colored and bright colored towels. Instead, do it according to its
shades. Be cautious in sorting each color groups, for mixing such fades and changes its colors.
Apply white vinegar to the wash water at the first wash cycle. White vinegar set the color of
the towel, prevents it from fading, removes detergent residue, and eliminates its bad odor.
Never use brightening products that are used for white towels. This obviously fades the
vibrancy of the towel’s color, so use detergents that are free of these brightening products,
especially made for colored towels.
Aside from brightening products, chlorine bleach isn’t for colored towels. Never be tempted
of using chlorine bleach to remove stubborn stains. Instead, use hot water and non-chlorine
bleach.
Be careful for adjusting washer’s temperature setting. If having hot water to kill mold and
bacteria while washing, it will also fail because it will diminish towel’s color and will wear down
its fibers. Turn down the temperature until 60C. Also, using cold water for rinsing is also
recommended.
Be specific about the functions of each colored towels. Some wipes the colored towels to
surfaces that contain bleach such as household cleaners and facial cleansers then expect the
color of the towel not to fade. Discoloration takes place then.
Avoid too much application of fabric conditioner. Too much fabric conditioner tends to
weaken the towel’s fibers, thus loses its ability to absorb water. Special and gentle fabric
conditioners are the right fit to make your towel’s color vibrant, soft and smell good.
Avoid machine drying. Remove the towels from the wash cycle immediately to avoid growth of
bacteria and mildew. Fluff the fibers by extracting excess water and shaking it out. Air dying for
about 10 minutes then hanging it to dry naturally and completely is the best way to save
energy and the towel itself.
Care Label and Care Level
From just reading on the care label and these tips, one can save a lot of money, time and energy in
keeping the color of the towel as good as the new ones. Colored towels are as delicate as those
ceramic displays in an interior. Once neglected and broken, its beauty will never go back. Keep the
colored towel as vibrant as possible with these tips and lessons.
Lake-effect Snow: How the Winter Affects Lakes By Joshue Concha
The winter season is here. Changes and adjustments from people’s body temperature to its effects to
the surroundings can’t be controlled, for it is the nature that’s exempted in doing when winter comes.
Bodies of water like lakes are fond of being affected by the cold temperature, especially when the
snow falls.
A lake is one of the areas that are easily affected by snow during winter because of its inability to flow
through the land that surrounds it. Some cities in America tend to be called “snowbelts” because of
the lake-effect snow. Lake-effect snow is the usual phenomena when cold winds crosses along the
warmer lake water, therefore causing freezing and affecting the lake greatly.
In the third week of November this year, the Great Lakes or North America just experienced a massive
and dangerous lake-effect snow due to the effects of the very cold air and the non-stop snowfall. The
Great Lakes are large bodies of water that are warmer than the arctic air that crosses over them from
the north. Because of this serious event, it would be best to know how and why it happens to the lake
that’s supposed to be protected.
Lakes Aren’t Warm Enough for Winter
Lakes play a vital role in every aspects of the society such as industrial, economical and recreational.
From providing beautiful scenery, the lakes do a lot of hard work in keeping thermal quality, removing
industrial wastes, generating power and energy, harvesting fisheries and other foods, and giving way
to merchant vessels when it has a great connection to rivers.
But knowing that lakes also have weak points because of the temperature, it’s clear to accept that it’s
normal when these causes are revealed. The lake naturally cools the air that passes over it during hot
weather and warms the cool air when the temperature is cold. Lakes also have the ability to store heat
that it gets during summer or periods when high temperature is present. But it tends to lose this
stored heat when cooling periods and cold climates like the winter crosses over its area.
This lake-effect precipitation eventually fails depending on the intensity of the season that the lakes
experience. Such winter seasons that bring a very cold air and heavy snow freeze the lake and results
to lake-effect snow. The open water area of the lake reacts and shrinks and reduces its stored heat;
thus, failing to produce squalls.
How Lake-effect Snow Happens
If the process of the lake-effect snow could also be in freeze through picture-by-picture, it will be seen
in this way:
1. The cold air, when the winter is too generous, moves and crosses over the lakes.
2. The warmer lakes give away its stored heat through the moisture that passes to the
atmosphere, reducing its stability and resulting to “convective instability.”
3. The moisture will now then be cooled by the cold air, condensing to ice crystals and clouds.
4. These ice crystals and clouds will be formed into snow and cover the downwind side of the
lake.
5. The density of the snow from the lake-effect snow phenomena depends on the temperature
brought by the winter season.
It could be seen as just “simple” facts, but lake-effect snow not only affects the lakes, but also the
other areas and people that benefit from it. There were instances that massive lake-effect snow
contributes to the blinding in some areas; thus, making it impossible to overcome such season. So be
aware and cautious about lake-effect snow, for it would freeze what the lake can do naturally.
“CCTV Cameras is the ‘Eye in the sky’ Above the Casino
Ceiling” By Joshue Concha
With such large diversity in people’s daily activities, some of them find their leisure time spent in
recreational-traditional ones, while some in gaming houses like casinos for the thrill and enjoyment of
the experience. Aside from being into gambles and bets, casinos also host entertainment and sporting
events.
Commonly established near tourist attractions like hotels, restaurants and cruise ships, casinos are
evidently a house wherein gamers – from professionals to recreational/tourists – visit and play. These
big houses cater big businesses with big people. In 2011, the Spectrum Gaming Group, a research and
professional services firm, just found that casinos in the United States collected $62.8 billion. It’s just a
great way of investing in for such revenue while playing.
The Gamers vs. The Cheaters
However, in casinos which are mainly in a gaming industry, you’ll always find the game, the gamer,
and the cheater. If winning in gambling makes great money, well cheating also does. The worst that
could be called to these cheaters would be thefts and criminals, so casinos could use a lot of time
looking for ways on how to strengthen their security.
Facility staffs and security officers, though well-trained, may have some shortcomings when it comes
to minimizing casinos’ security risks. There are seasons when the house is occupied by large masses of
people; thus, the busy environment encounters instances of stealing, fighting and other crimes (not
just among the visitors, but also with employees who have dark intentions).
This is where technology takes place.
The ‘Eye in the Sky,’ Finally Opened
Every corner of the casino may be at risk, so the digital age took the scene and introduced the Closed-
Circuit Television (CCTV) in 1949. Also called as video surveillance, the CCTV is used to
transmit visuals and audios from its video cameras to its control room. It is used to monitor all of the
events, transactions and activities made between the gamers and the facilitators. The Mirage was the
first casino to use such on their table games in 1989.
In casinos, the CCTV is also known as the “Eye in the sky.” sounds catchy? Definitely, and it may catch
you cheating. The physical security arm and the surveillance department work together to patrol,
report and respond to criminal acts.
May be it above the ceiling, on the floor, on the tables and slot machines, through one way glass, and
even attached to the facilitators and staff – the CCTV, typically made up of between 500 and 3000
cameras installed everywhere for a successful prevention of crimes.
These acts work with the cooperation of the players like being required to keep and hold their cards
visible at all times. The constant flow of visitors and money as well as the quick actions on the gaming
tables has high risk in security. If deceptive actions are being reported, the CCTV operators will then
have the privilege to access their recorded videos for immediate investigations.
Installation for Protection
Security and surveillance are mainly the purpose of having CCTV cameras, and the nature of casinos
need its assistance.
CCTV cameras are easily installed and flexible, for it functions on a network and is remote. It is
specialized for crowd control, because casinos have great range of customers and visitors who play
and win – not just in the game, but also in some violence when high stakes gambling and alcohol seep
in. The game tables couldn’t avoid suspicious players and thefts, so CCTV cameras are also placed to
reveal their intentions.
In the above-mentioned security risks and the benefits of having CCTV cameras installed, the casinos
just have its reasons for it – to protect the customers and offer a safe environment to spend their
leisure time in.
How to live like you have no cancer? By Joshue Concha
As the song of Kris Allen entitled” Live Like We’re Dying” states:
“Yeah, we gotta start lookin' at the hands of the time we've been given
If this is all we got, then we gotta start thinkin'
If every second counts on a clock that's tickin'
Gotta live like we're dying.”
It is fair enough to say that these lyrics capture the hearts of the ones being diagnosed with cancer.
What is it like to live with cancer? One wouldn’t know the truth unless this disease hit him. While
adjusting to the diagnosis, cancer patients suffer from different physical, emotional and financial
issues which are in addition to the thought of having cancer.
What if the question will be changed into: “What is it like to live like you have no cancer?” Several
cancer patients, as well as cancer survivors, have become living testaments that to live life is such a
wonderful thing and it must be treated like a blessing.
The Unlikely way of Living
A cancer patient experiences a lot of sickness and pain such as depression, fatigue, nauseaand
constipation, to name a few. These are often caused by a number of treatments like chemotherapy,
immunotherapy, radiation treatments and other systematically designed ones to help minimize the
possibility of the cancer being spread.
The anxiety, stress and emotional breakdowns are the ones that can’t be controlled by these
treatments for the cancer patient alone must have his own ways to lessenit. But instead of being sick
of these sicknesses, a cancer patient must develop his mind and body to conquer everything and see
what life really means to him.
The Perks of Living with Cancer
A cancer patient must not be described as sufferer, but as a challenger. Unsure of the time that could
be spent living, how will he choose to live his life? Here are some practical and easy ways to live like
you have no cancer:
Treat nutritious foods and drinks as answers to pleasures and cravings. A diet with nutritious
content keeps the cancer patient full and healthy. It prevents infection and helps replace
tissues that have been broke down. Foods rich in fiber, vitamins A and C usually comes in
fruits, vegetables and beans which are often juiced or served naturally – a hydrating and
nourishing way to feel healthy inside and out.
Ask your doctor if a social drink wouldn’t hurt. Alcoholic beverages like wine have received
some medical appraisals for giving health benefits. Having this simple pleasure would help you
feel celebrated and normal. There are non-alcoholic beers and ones that are brewed from
whole grains to keep you satisfied and relieved, just don’t forget to discuss it with your doctor.
Spend 30 minutes on exercising at least four times a week. Your cardiovascular system needs
some walking, jogging and other exercising to do. These will also lessen stress and the feeling
of aging.
Appreciate the people that surround you, as well as the animals. Animals that need love often
find a good relationship with people. Pets help improve a cancer patient’s immune system,
leading to longer and happier life; reduced depression, blood pressure and cholesterol.
Accept who, what, why, where, and how you are – everything about you. Acceptance just
shows maturity and happiness. Accepting and being oneself are the best way to inspire others
to be unique and to love themselves unconditionally. This belief results torelief among the
diagnosed and the other people.
Take risk and never let an opportunity pass you by. Unhappy people often plant regrets in his
own for he didn’t take the risk and didn’t think that it may be his last chance to do it. Well
cancer patients think differently and have their bucket list, because they know how important
the hours that they’re spending, so fear will never hinder them from doing what makes them
feel alive.
Value time, love and yourself. With uncertain span of time to live on, a cancer patient
wouldn’t mind spending it on appreciating everything and everyone that makes him become
what he wants to be. Saying such kind and truthful words like “I love you” and “thank you”
gives a cancer patient the feeling of gratefulness for the life that he has.
Be mindful of your mind. Being depressed and lonely about your situation only causes
chemical reactions in your body to affect your immune system. So being calm and thinking of
happy thoughts help you strengthen not only your mind, but also your body.
Living life, especially if you’re diagnosed with cancer, is just a matter of having a leap of faith and
everything will go along. These tips aren’t just for the sake of overcoming such pain and sickness, but
it’s for the sake of knowing your purpose to live – which is to live like you have no cancer.
Should Braces In Teeth Be Part Of Your New Look This New
Year? By Joshue Concha
People are excited for the New Year to come, for it’s the most reasonable time to get a new look.
Maybe it in the way they dress, their hair styles, and even the type of their dental care. Dental
appliances called braces are not new to this generation. Shall braces in your teeth be part of your new
look in New Year?
By looking in the mirror and experiencing oral difficulties, one must assess himself and consult his
dentist if having braces is a must. Braces function to align and move the teeth to avoid malocclusion –
the misalignment of teeth from the molars which affects how the upper and lower arches bite.
Dentists recommend it through orthodontic treatment, which will help prevent tooth decay, gum
disease, misalignment and headache. There were more or less 3 million teens in America and Canada
who have undergone orthodontic treatment. Alarmed? Consult your dentist and start correcting it this
New Year.
The What and Why Questions about Braces
The ideal age for someone to get braces is seven to 14. But the braces aren’t just for kids and teens,
for the number of adults that need to wear such also arises. Are you one of them?
The span of time for wearing one depends on the treatment plan and the complication. However, the
usual time lasts for about 12 and 24 months, which is followed by wearing of retainer. Braces usually
have three types, depending on your need: (1) the Ceramic, metal and plastic brackets, which are
bonded to the teeth, (2) the Lingual or concealed brackets, which are not noticeable for it is attached
to the back of the teeth, and (3) the Aligners, which is clear and customized, removable unlike the first
two that uses wires to move the teeth.
Here are some of the reasons that are not to be ignored, for braces may save you and your teeth from
serious dental health problems:
Malocclusion. As mentioned, this is the most common reason to get braces. Malocclusion has
three different types of teeth misalignments, so read on and assess which type you have.
o Class I bite. Crowding and spacing (which will be further explained) affect the upper and
lower arches.
o Class II bite or “Over Bite.” The first lower molar is too near at the back, which causes
the upper jaw to be pushed forward when biting.
o Class III or “Under Bite.” This is the opposite of the Class II bite, having the lower jaw
pushed towards the front.
Crowding. The teeth grow into wrong positions (which are worse if the arches are too small);
thus teeth overlap and crowding causes spacing to be affected.
Having crooked teeth. This cause chewing and clenching difficult, giving you a hard time eating
your food.
Mouth breathing and snoring. Over time, the structure of your mouth changes and misaligned
teeth plays a big role in breathing problems when you sleep, which will then result to sleep
apnea.
Interfering of speech. The misaligned and not straightened teeth affect the muscles on your
mouth that will result in difficulty on how you speak.
Experiencing jaw pain. Misalignment of teeth, especially in molars, causes the jaw to be in
pain.
Getting used to grinding of teeth. The discomfort caused by wrong teeth positioning often
creates mannerisms just to ease what’s going on in your teeth.
It’s Not Yet Too Late to Save Yourself
You know now that getting braces aren’t only for minor corrections on how you’ll look, but braces play
a big role in the elimination of serious dental health problems. New Year’s coming, and it’s not too late
to consult your dentist and seek orthodontic treatment. Smiling with attractive teeth will not only
make it look right, but it will also make you feel better and healthy.
Towel Care Guide for Hotels and Spas By Joshue Concha
Hotels and Spas aim to cater every guest’s pleasures and luxuries when it comes to vacations and
relaxations. From the greetings a guest receives from the lobby, to the towels he wraps on his body in
the bathroom, hotels and spas are the best sanctuaries to spend life’s pleasures.
Towels play a big role in the standards of staying in a hotel or spa. Maybe it the wash clothes, hand
towels, bath towels, bath mats, or bath sheets, the quality of towels that the guests use matters. Once
the hotel and spa chooses the right towels that would fit in its amenities, it’s time to be aware of how
to take care of it.
A Magnified Look through its Fibers
Most of the spa towels are purely white, while hotel towels depend on its motif and design. These
towels differ from the usual home, gym and pool towels; for its quality is designed for relaxation and it
can be kept for a long time with proper care. Its “life-span” depends on its fabric weight, in which its
heaviness is measured by grams per square meter (GSM), and fibrous threads, which absorb moisture
more if the threads are longer.
Hotel and Spa towels can be made of: (1) micro-cotton yarns, which is also known as ring-spun cotton
yarns, (2) Egyptian cotton or Pima cotton, which gives luxurious feels because of its softness and
fluffiness, (3) cellulose from beech trees, which doubles the absorbent functions of cottons, (4)
synthetics, which give it a glossy look, (5) organic cottons from bamboo, which resist mildew and have
looser texture, and (6) engineered fibers, which are lighter and thinner but also great in absorbency.
Pampering the Towels Itself
Washing the towels must not be done by just rinsing-soaping-drying, but it must be handled with
proper care. The difference on the wash cycles among hotels and spas will not affect these most
common tips on how to take care of towels:
If the hotel and spa just brought new sets of towel, never use it immediately. Instead, wash it
before the first use.
Rinse and cleanse the towel with a flush of clear water.
Use hot water in washing when applying detergent.
Separate dark colored towels from bright colored ones.
Never use bleach to brighten the towel. To remove stains, use an oxygen bleach or non-
chlorine bleach.
Apply and coat special fabric softener to make the towels soft and fluffy for every use.
Rinse thoroughly until the last cycle. Make sure that unwanted dirt, stains and chemicals from
the detergents and softeners are properly rinsed to avoid its fibers to break down.
Dry the towels by extracting it to remove excess water.
Use high heat alternately with natural air to dry the towels. Be cautious in doing it, for the high
heat may kill germs, but too much of it may damage its fibers.
Taking care of towels, especially for hotels and spas, can be compared to taking care of expensive
clothes – by treating it like it’s a luxury and an investment. These simple tips of taking care of towels
may prevent expenses from buying new ones as well as avoid low-rate stars given by the guests.
New Year’s Resolution: Cross-out Bad Dental Habits By Joshue Concha
New Year is all about welcoming new beginnings and changing the ways that hold you back from being
better. Almost everyone creates a list called the New Year’s resolution to keep them organized and
motivated upon complying with it.
Being physically fit, academically competitive and other resolutions – everything has to do with
lessening the bad habits and applying better ones, and good dental care must be included in this. It’s
the perfect time to make everything better between you and your teeth.
The Guilt in these Habits
Even though one thinks he’s doing the right routine, the unnoticed bad dental habits will eventually
cause dental health problems. So what are these bad dental habits that must be eliminated for your
New Year’s resolution? Read on and be guilty of these bad habits:
Drinking from bottled water. It prevents you from vital fluoride which usually comes from
drinking tap water. So instead of bottled ones, look for tap water and drink on fluoride.
Manners of crunching, sipping and sucking. The brittleness put stress and fractures on your
teeth when you crunch on something like kernels and crushed and cubed ice. Sipping on sodas
expose your teeth and gum line to acids which will lead to tooth decay and gum recession. And
mind your children not to suck their thumbs because it causes misalignment of teeth and jaw
structure. These guilty pleasures must be stopped just by chewing something nutritious,
sipping soda through a straw, and avoid sucking of thumbs.
Not doing the right routine in using toothbrush.
o Brushing immediately before and after meal. Brushing your teeth directly before and
after your meal makes your teeth more sensitive and damaged. Instead, wait for 30
minutes until you head to the bathroom and you can have a little time with mouthwash
or sugarless gum while waiting.
o Brushing with deep pressure. It can cause gum recession and enamel erosion, making
your teeth more susceptible to decay.
o Not brushing all of the teeth. Every surface of the teeth – inner and outer and between
each – must be brushed for plaques are everywhere.
o Not brushing the tongue. It is one of the areas where bacteria enjoy living.
o Using the same toothbrush for a long time. Overtime, its bristles wear out and it must
be replaced every three months.
Not using toothpaste with fluoride. Some believe that fluoride is too strong for some ages to
use, but the truth is that it helps prevent your teeth from cavities; thus, develops healthy teeth.
Ignoring to floss. Toothbrush can’t reach all of the areas where plaques reside, like the ones in
between your teeth and under your gum line. Limit yourself to floss once or twice a day.
Not gargling or rinsing your mouth. It’s not advisable to brush immediately before and after
meal, but rinsing your mouth is. It helps eliminate food particles and acids in a natural way.
Treating teeth like tools. Everyone’s guilty of using teeth to complete different tasks, from
mild to extensive once. It traumatizes and weakens your teeth and causes fractures. Just use
the right tools and mind not using your teeth.
Forgetting and avoiding dental check-ups. Not visiting your dentist worsens your bad dental
habits, as it is a must for your teeth to be checked twice a year. Dentists know best to help you
while avoiding your bad dental habits.
New Year Leaves Old Habits
It’s impossible not to have at least one of these bad dental habits. Create a different section for your
list of New Year’s resolutions organized only for your dental care. Avoid these bad dental habits and
you’ll be surprised how your teeth will react and become healthier and more attractive when the next
year comes.
What to Put in Your Plate during Holiday Gatherings to
Prevent Dental Problems By Joshue Concha
Christmas is coming. The city has never been beautiful with lights and lanterns clothing the homes,
exchanging of gifts, and inviting your loved ones for celebration. Christmas gatherings will never be
complete without good foods and drinks, and everyone’s guilty of saving tummy space, for several
Christmas gatherings mean several plates and glasses for eating and drinking.
However, such foods and beverages now contain ingredients that are not that organic, so choosing
what to intake can affect your health as well as your dental health. So before the year ends, keep in
mind that it’s never too late to take care of your dental health while indulging in the holiday’s
mouthful pleasures.
Hello Goody, Goodbye Smiley
Eating a lot, without knowing what’s in it, usually causes the dental problems of most people. Tooth
decay isn’t only for children, and gum disease isn’t only for adults either.
All sugary foods can cause tooth decay. Sucrose, fructose, maltose and glucose are present mostly in
the foods such as candies, cookies and pastries as well as drinks like sugar-filled sodas and sweetened
drinks. Starchy and sugary foods cause the build-up of plaques – the sticky bacteria that covers the
surface of your teeth which can produce toxins and break down the enamel and then becomes havoc
in your mouth.
Lack of certain nutrients causes the gum tissues to be weak from infections. With the intake of acidic
foods and beverages, expect to have severe gum disease and smile without any teeth. To be aware of
the foods that look too nice but causes bad dental health, here are some that should be avoided in
every gathering:
Sugary sweets. Candies, cacao, caramels and the like will create plaques.
Starchy foods. Some breads and chips get stuck between your teeth.
Soft drinks and citrus drinks. Added sugars and citric acids can cause gum erosion.
Alcohol. Beverages of this kind cause your mouth to dry out, failing to produce saliva, which
cancels out acids.
