Xenon Versus LED Flashlight Bulbs - What Is The Difference?

Flashlights in particular can be used for all sorts of jobs and activities and are also handy to have

around the house. Nowadays flashlights have germinated into all types depending on the usage its

developed for, as well as several different sizes, luminosities, colors and of course; prices. Medical

flashlights for example, can be mounted on pen tips and powered with pill sized batteries while others

are mounted on top of helmets. Obviously the most important facet of a flashlight is its functionality

and usability and of course the light that it emits. The two most common types of bulbs are LED and

Xenon and they are most likely used for home and personal use. Here are a few extra notes so you

can figure out what the real differences are between these bulbs:

Xenon - These types of bulbs follow along the same principle of incandescent bulbs wherein a small

wire in the bulb is heated to produce light. Inside the glass section of the bulb is a gas known as

Xenon. This gas helps in aiding the stabilization of the heating of the wire so that it heats it enough to

produce light but it doesn't actually catch flame and produce fire. Its pretty ingenious!

LED - Light Emitting Diode (LED) utilizes a semi-conductor and a source of electricity so that light can

be produced. These bulbs are supposedly more energy efficient and are more durable when it comes

to shattering when the bulb is dropped. More and more flashlight companies are starting to use this

type of bulb because it requires less energy from the battery to produce the brightness which means

that the bulb lasts longer.

Obviously the choice is yours for what bulb you decide to use and what flashlights you decide to use,

however, if you want a bulb that lasts longer, is more durable and is more innovative and has a

brighter light, you will buy the LED option, and besides, most companies will eventually start using

this one anyway, so you may as well familiarize yourself with it while you can! I was reading an article

earlier about one of the fenix lights that uses the LED option and it said it could last up to 50,000

hours on one bulb alone and it was a good option for campers and adventurists because it had a 36

day survival mode. Thirty Six days?!? That is nothing short of amazing! Check 'em out the next time
