Houston Jewelry Stores Share History Of Coin Jewelry

When making reference to coin jewelry

Houston jewelry stores have it divided into

two completely different categories: whole

coins and cut coins. This article is going to

offer you basic information and the origin of

both types.

It is believed that whole coin jewelry has

been in existence since the very first coin was

invented. It has been said that the Egyptians

would use medal similar to coins of their day

to decorate their soldiers. With all the

traveling that both soldiers and civilians do the coins of other nations have been a great souvenir

to take back home. Jewelry stores in Houston have seen travelers with coins that are finished

completely and some with added engravings that they wear as necklaces and rings.

Houston jewelry stores refer to coins that are not whole as cut coins. The cut coins are believed

to have been seen around the 1600s when men would pierce and cut coins in order to impress

their loved ones. Since the 1600’s cutting coins has become a serious form of artisanship that is

currently producing some truly unique pieces of jewelry that are simply works of art. The artisan

will begin cutting a coin by piercing the piece with many holes. These small holes enable them to

cut the interior figure out of the coin, which makes a unique one of a kind coin. Once the holes

are in place then a fine tooth jeweler’s saw is inserted into the holes and worked until the main

figure of the coin is released. When the main figure is released, you are able to see the central

figure from the coin featured by itself. The coins can then be left in the base metal or most

individuals elect to cover the figure in either gold or silver and in some cases both. The two-tone

finish allows the intricacies of both the coin and the artisanship to be shown. At this point, the

coin is ready to be taken to the final form as a pendant, earrings, tie tacks, money clips or even

rings.

Jewelry stores in Houston have seen a rise in demand for coin jewelry. At the present time, both

the whole coins and cut coins are very popular. Many individuals will purchase the coins and use

them as a beautiful and unique accessory. Some use the pieces to show their national pride while

others will place them in a collection that specifically fits their hobby or interests. Some

consumers choose to wear the pieces that have been formed into the shape of butterflies, delicate

flowers, and bold suns. The pieces can be worn as pendants and earrings.

There is one coin that stands out above all the rest, it is from Barbados, and is the ten dollar coin

which features Neptune with a trident in his hand. When tourists want to make a purchase that

shows their national pride, the Irish and Polish coins are popular along with the American coins.

With the state quarters, Americans along with travelers are able to show their state pride.
