Phase I : Strategic Planning

• Careful strategic planning includes evaluation of your benefit plan’s characteristics.

• The intent for strategic planning is to look beyond the immediate situation and needs of the benefit program and develop long-term goals and objectives for each program.

• For example, what is the main reason your company offers a benefit package to your employees? What are the most important benefits? Does the employer have to contribute or could you offer some on a voluntary basis? Strategic planning will help you determine a general “roadmap” for your benefit plans.
