vodcast, MySpace, YouTube, twitter– Second Life: A World Fit for Children, the Convention on the Rights

of the Child, 1-minute machinima videos

• “You gotta be in it to win it!”– Learning by experimenting and making mistakes– Biggest challenges involve how to create the interface between RL,

SL and everything in between– Developing world vs. Industrialized world (multiple digital divides)

During the week of December 18, 2006 UNICEF co-hosted an event for more than 1,000 children in Teen Second Life to educate participants on the issues addressed by the UN Special Session on Children in “a World Fit for Children”

• 12 Teams, including 60 teens, finished the competition• VoY representative Mariel (Mexico) presented to 50 teens• Henry Jenkins from MIT Media Lab – celebrity speaker• Winning teams included Finnish (1st place) and US teams• Over 1,000 visitors to the event

CRC at 18 in Teen Second Life

• International youth participate in TSL workshops to learn about the “Convention on the Rights of the Child” (CRC).

• Teens develop 1-minute machinima videos about issues to celebrate the 18th anniversary of the CRC.

• During the development of the videos, the teens blog on the GK HolyMeatballs.org site about their projects.

• The videos will be on YouTube and a CRC at 18 Web site with discussion board, advocacy and education materials.

• This Fall UNICEF and Global Kids will produce a film festival event in TSL showcasing these machinima videos, as well as real-world 1-minute CRC videos.
