Blue-Green Algae: KNOW BEFORE YOU GO: The Kansas Department of Health and Environment has placed the area of Milford lake north of Farnum Creek under a Blue-Green Algae Warning. The Fort Riley Marina is in the warning zone, so no direct water contact crafts can be rented. This includes canoes, kayaks, jet skies, tubes, water skies, etc. Warning signs will be placed at boat ramps and access points in the affected area. The area south of Farnum Creek is considered clear with no restrictions. Wildflower Walk on the Konza Prairie: 1 June 6pm-9pm-check out the Manhattan Military Relations flyer below. 2014 Yellow Ribbon Social Schedule: Is your spouse deployed, TDY or on rotation to NTC or JRTC? If you answered yes to either one of these they you are able to attend the Manhattan Area Chamber of Commerce Yellow Ribbon Social Group for spouses. They meet monthly at various locations in the Manhattan community. Join them for great food, make some new friends and build a support team filled with folds who know what you are going through. The events are all Dutch-Style meaning you spend as much or as little as you would like per your outing. They DO NOT ALLOW Children at these events. Deployment Resources : Operation kid comfort: Volunteers at the Armed Services YMCA create custom-made photo transfer quilts and pillows. Each child receives a quilt or pillow; children 7 and under receive a quilt, 8 and older receive a pillow. Operation Kid Comfort quilts and pillows are for the children of our deployed active duty U.S. military service men and women. The quilts and pillows are personally handcrafted to help children cope with the emotional stress during a parent's deployment. Deployment Resources: Operation Gratitude annually sends 150,000+ care packages filled with snacks, entertainment, hygiene and hand-made items, plus personal letters of appreciation, to Veterans, First Responders, Wounded Warriors, Care Givers and to individually named U.S. Service Members deployed overseas. Our mission is to lift the spirits and meet the evolving needs of our Active Duty and Veteran communities, and provide volunteer opportunities for all Americans to express their appreciation to members of our Military.
