BODY IMAGE WITH MEN AND WOMEN

• Body image has been an issue for many years because of the media’s influence of the “ideal” body image.

• According to Eating Disorder Hope, Over 50% of teenage girls and 33% of teenage boys are using restrictive measures to lose weight at any given time.

• The media constantly pushes this idea of the “perfect” body for both men and women. But……it’s not real. Photoshop has made it’s mark quite a few times.

VISUAL• https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PsL7W-GHhJA• These types of messages are usually conveyed

through a video, photo, advertisement, movie, t.v. show, etc.

• The media uses visual images of supermodels or actors/actresses to point out the ideal body image.• For women, the ideal image is usually tall, thin,

very small waist, large breasts, and large butt.• For men, the ideal body image would be chiseled

with large muscles, thing, tall, and great hair.

VERBAL

• These messages could be, a written article, a photo with only words, a headline, advertisement, etc.

• These messages are effective because they make you stop and think.

• This message is trying to promote women to stop thinking like the media and think they are beautiful just the way they are.

POSITIVE

• This is an example of a positive visual image. • The author is trying to promote positivity towards

body image. They want us to see that any size can be beautiful!

• This would also be an example of an informal message.

NEGATIVE• As you can see from the photo, some company’s

advertise the ideal body image with women of the same height, build, and of the same size. This promotes a negative image for the ideal body.

• The author for Victoria’s secret sees beauty as thin and tall. But, Dove sees the true image of women.

• These advertisements are meant to attract women’s attention, but one does so negatively, and one positively.
