2. Math & Science Math is a science that deals with the
logic of shape, quantity and arrangement. Math and Science are used
everyday in cell phones, internet, satellites, online billing,
medicine, recipes, and taxes. Without Science and Math, we wouldnt
have advancements in communications and medicines. It brings ease
to common households things like: microwaves, MRI scanners, radio,
hearing aids, lasers, and medical treatments. Our world is
ever-changing. We depend more and more on mathematics and science
everyday. Math and Science are both important factors in
technology, which is an important factor in todays world.
Technology help us communicate with those all around the world with
the use of satellites, the internet, and cell phones. They make it
easier to work and even pay our bills online. With the help of
science, we can improve our health. Math teaches us how to balance
a household budget, to preparing your taxes, or pay your bills.
Mathematics and science touch every part of our lives.
3. (5) Examples: Blogs/podcasts: They can use these tools by
creatively recording their discoveries. Youtube is great for
students to get a preview of the next lesson. Wikispaces can help
students that miss class or dont understand the previous lesson.
Facebook: Every class needs a Facebook page to keep in touch and
help others with any problems. Zello: Keeps students in touch with
late night problems with assignments, studying tips, or
misunderstandings.
4. Podcasts Sometimes it seems easier to say what you mean
instead of write it. According to philosopher Richard Garlikov, It
is my contention that writing is different from, and generally more
difficult than, talking because writing tends to occur under
conditions which make it more difficult to know what to say and how
to say it. Writing tends to be done under conditions that yield no
natural or spontaneous introduction and that require more detail
and clarity, generally because there is little feedback or
opportunity to respond to any lack of understanding,
misunderstandings, or disagreement. In writing something, one
normally has to be sure all the necessary information, and perhaps
significant implications, are contained in the text in a meaningful
and lucid way, because that may be all the reader has to go by.
Writing usually demands greater understanding of what is required
for approaching or introducing a subject, for making it clear, and
for being reasonably complete about it.
5. Podcasts-Science and Math In order to use podcasts
effectively in the classroom, students will create their own
podcasts to better articulate their findings in both math and
science homework. Instead of doing a lab report or math homework on
paper, they will talk it through on a podcast to enhance their
understanding or findings of the material. This is especially
helpful if the student is having a problem or encounters an issue
as well as ensures that the students do the report because it will
be clear by their speech on whether they know the information or
not.
6. Lab Report Example Newtons First Law of Motion Wacky Washers
To prepare for this experiment, stack 4 washers one on top of the
other so that you form a tower of washers. Place the stack of
washers on top of your textbook or on the floor so that you have a
smooth, slick surface. Aim one washer at the bottom of the stack of
four washers and give it a good hard flick with your finger or
hand. What happens? Flick a stack of two washers into a stack of
four washers. What happens? Flick a stack of four washers into a
stack of four washers. What happens? Create a podcast and explain
your observations, try to do this in in terms of Newtons 1st
Law.
7. Results When writing, it is easier to leave out critical
information that could result in deduction of points, but because
talking is quicker and easier there can be more information
involved. Because this is more informal than writing, it will put
less pressure on the students. From the lab example, it shows that
by talking through their experiments or homework, the teacher can
better connect with the students and their thought process.
8. Conclusion In conclusion, it would be useful and affective
to use podcasts in a Math and Science involved classroom. Taking
the place of written lab reports or math homework, podcast can
provide more insight into the students thoughts and feelings during
the work process.
