-are called demonstrative pronouns. Can you tell why they are called such?e. Those words are not in italics because they are adjectives – not demonstrative pronouns. Compare them with the italicized demonstrative pronouns.

RememberA demonstrative pronoun points out a

particular person, place or thing. Demonstrative pronouns are this, that, these and those.

This and these point out nouns that are near the person speaking. That and those point out things that are far from the person speaking.

This and that are singular. These and those are plural.

RememberHow can you distinguish a

demonstrative pronoun from an adjective?

When this, these, that and those are used before nouns, they are adjectives, not pronouns.
