What is 3G?

•Third Generation wireless telecommunication technology is an advanced telecommunication technology.

•Provides high speed internet and high quality mobile telephony.

•The technology enables simultaneous voice and non-voice data transfer.

•It is an enhancement over current 2G technology.

What’s ahead for 3G?

•Universal networking

•Customized services

•Higher network speeds

•Other auxiliary services

•4G

Architecture:Two kinds of serviceBasic service set(BSS)Extended service set (ESS)

BSS:Building block of wireless LANMade of stationary or mobile wireless stationsCentral base station access point(AP)

Extended Service Set ESS:Two or more BSS with AP.MAC have Two Functions

Distributed Co-ordinate function(DCF)Point Cordination Function (PCF)

Security Features:

UMTS consists of five security feature groups: 1) Network Access Security (A in diagram below) provides users with secure

access to UMTS services and protect against attacks on the radio access link. 2) Network Domain Security (B in diagram below) protects against attacks on the wireline network and allows nodes in the provider domain to exchange signaling data securely. 3) User Domain Security (C in diagram below) provides secure access to mobile stations. 4) Application Domain Security (D in diagram below) allows the secure exchange of messages between applications in the user and in the provider domain. 5) Visibility and configurability of security allows the user to observe whether a security feature is currently in operation and if certain services depend on this security feature

Power Control Algorithm

• Algorithm 1:

• The power control step is the change in the UE transmitter output power in response to a single TPC command

Algorithm 2:

•

• If all five estimated TPC command are "down" the transmit power is reduced by 1 dB

• If all five estimated TPC command are "up" the transmit power is increased by 1 dB

• Otherwise the transmit power is not changed
