How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

The Front Cover

The use of the front cover in my ancillary tasks creates an effective sense of continuity. The target audience can clearly see that the magazine is being advertised, both in a physical and digital form. By having the ancillary tasks advertising the front cover the preferred reading is that the area is attractive and pleasing, this hopefully encourages the target audience to purchase the magazine.

Title

By using the same font the continuity between the ancillaries and my main task carries on. Brand recognition is an important aspect of my main and ancillary tasks so using the same black and white colouring it keeps to the house style, providing this recognition for the audience.

The Content

The content on the website and contents page is similar, with two of the articles being shared. The continuity between the types of articles offered is important as it helps the audience to understand the type of magazine it is. By only using two of the physical magazine's articles it should create intrigue for the website audience who may buy a copy because they found the articles interesting.

Website and Social Media Links

By directly referencing the website on my front cover and contents page it provides a clear link between the physical magazine and the website. As well as this I used social media links on both of my ancillary tasks, the preferred reading of these icons is should appeal to my target demographic as they are heavily media based. This also uses the reception theory as it will hopefully generate more interest for the magazine and create a more loyal fan base as they would feel liked they're more involved with the magazine.

House Style

My ancillaries and main task have the same house style of black, white and grey. This carries on the brand recognition as well as enforcing the continuity. All three texts are simply and cleanly laid out, making it easy for the audience to read and follow, this was an important aspect of the continuity.

I combined features from my main and ancillary tasks in order to create a continuous effect

For instance I used: social media/website links, the same font, same house style, similar content and usage of front cover.

Overall I think my ancillary tasks effectively promote the actual magazine
