ALBUM COVER CREATION TASKJULY 2015

For this task, we as a class, were asked to create an album cover using Adobe Photoshop. This not only allowed us to gain experience with the editing format for our final piece but also gave us an insight into how other people believe a cover should look.

We used a random word generator to acquire the title, artist and then chose the 3rd image of the day on flickr. Using manipulation and other album designs, we were able to create a genuine looking cover that we could then assign a genre to.

First CoverAs I was given 3 foreign words, I instantly decided to make the artist of a soft-indie genre. The motivational quote I then got helped add to this as I used this to exaggerate the type of music this artist would produce. Finally this was easily emphasised by the subtle and aesthetically pleasing landscape photo. The beach and the property aligned to the left made it easy to position the text in the most effective place, to the left.

Second CoverYet again, I seemed to acquire a foreign name for my artist. However the tagline was more self-involver rather than motivational to the audience. This made it clear it should be of a rap genre as stereotypically rappers tend to be conceited. The iconic Coltejer building was then assigned as my photo and I chose to have a black and white effect over it to make it look more gritty and to mimic other album covers of a similar genre, such as many of Jay-z’s covers. As the building is commonly associated with Medellin, Columbia, the foreign name could suggest this picture was taken by the artist and is proud to be from Medellin. The title then could be argued to show ‘inner appreciation’ towards the city and not himself, as done in J Cole’s album ‘2014 Forest Hills Drive’.
