Analysis of my Rock magazine front cover

This is the masthead of the front cover, I named the magazine 'FIERCE’ because my magazine is based on the rock genre and the word fierce emphasises something dangerous and I think that this is a suitable name for my magazine. I edited cracks into the masthead because I want to symbolise something hard which connotes rock. The masthead also creates a house style that can become well known and so a small amount of the masthead can be covered by the main picture for example on my magazine the word ‘R’ is covered. The masthead stands out on the background because the background is of stage with purple spotlights.

This is the main image of the front cover. The photograph that I have taken is of a Asian female, normally when you see a rock magazine you wold mainly see a male featured with dark hair and piercings, but I did not want to take a photograph of that because I am targeting a different audience. This breaks the rock convention. Although the female features is wearing dark black clothing and is holding a electric guitar which are conventions of the rock genre that I have kept the same.

This is the main cover line on the front cover, which says ‘THE HOTTEST CHICK OF ALL TIME’. This means that the magazine is going to be trying to covey who the hottest chick is which is easy to understand because the cover line is towards the female featuresd on the front cover, so therefore the hottest chick will be her.

These are the rest of the cove lines, ‘FEATURING THE HEARDCORE BANDS’, show excitement towards the reader it also drags the readers attention because they will want to know which bands will be featured. This is also another cover line representing who is going to come back is the best rock god, this will create a sense of pleasure towards the reader because they will want to find out who is back.

Above the masthead ‘FIERCE’, I have createsd a tag line in the top bar saying ‘THE WORLDS LOUDEST ROCK MAGAZINE’, I did this because before I created this magazine I researched into a lot of rock magazines and almost everyone of them had a tagline. I made mine saying ‘THE WORLDS LOUDEST ROCK MAGAZINE’ because this will indicate towards the reader of what kind of rock magazine it is, and as you can tell by the word ‘LOUDEST’, it is going to be a loud rock magazine.

I made sure I put the barcode and the price on the front cover because these are always conventions of a magazine. I also put a website at the top for the magazine which is ‘www.fierce.com.’. I did this because if the viewer does not want to buy the magazine then they can simply go on to the website and read the online version of it.
