Create a professional email address Set up an email address that is simply your name. You want to make a great impression on the employer and as soon as they see an email address that doesn’t show you as professional they may form the wrong opinion.

Create a professional voicemailIf an employer calls you and hears you rapping, swearing etc on a voicemail the likelihood is they won’t call you back. This is a chance to make an impression. Show them you are polite, respectful and someone they will want to employ.

Google yourselfPut yourself in an employer’s shoes - again it’s all about making the right impression. Ensure that there is no inappropriate information about you on the internet or anything that shows you in a bad light. Ensure your Social Media settings keep everything private - you don’t want an employer to see anything they won’t like the look of. Better yet, remove it and in future be conscious of what is posted, you never know when privacy settings may fail you.

Check your phone and emailWhen you are job hunting you want employers to contact you. Be sure to check your emails and voicemails regularly and respond. It’s always a good idea to check junk messages to ensure potential jobs aren’t slipping through the cracks! A lot of employers won’t try to contact you more than once - they want to see YOU take the initiative.

Make a great first impression! All of the above are small things you can do to ensure that you make a great first impression on employers. Always make sure you are presentable, polite, punctual, (not just on time but 10 mins early), and reliable - don’t mess them around, do what you say you will! All of those virtues your parents and teachers taught you make you a great employee!

Lastly...Don’t forget to keep checking our website - show you are able to take the initiative and responsibility for your own job hunt and APPLY for positions that interest you without delay!
