Mrs. Johnson – 2nd Grade

Welcome to 2nd grade!

• I will introduce you to 2nd grade and our classroom.

• If you have any questions during my presentation, please wait until the end

All About Me

• My background– I grew up in Richmond, Virginia– I attended Darren Elementary, Peterswood

High School, and Ohio State, and VCU.

• My experience– I’ve been teaching for 6 going on 7 years.– I have also taught 1st grade and 3rd grade, but

2nd grade is my favorite.

My Family

• My husband– Michael Johnson ( He is also a teacher)

• My children– I have twin daughters their names are (Allison

and Amber)– I have a 14 month year old baby her name is

(Pebbles)

• Our pets

‾ We have a dog

My Goals

• To give you the academic and social skills you need to progress to 3rd grade.

• To provide a supportive and fun classroom.

• To help you make new friends and discover new interests.

Class Subjects

Class Subjects

• The subjects we cover during 2nd grade are:– English – Math– Social Studies– Science

English

• Briefly describe the topics you will cover this year in English.

• You will cover during English is: ( Spelling Words, SSR, Stories, and Reading Test).

Math

• Briefly describe the topics you will cover this year in Math.

• What you will learn while in math: ( Test, Quizzes, Notes and Activities).

Science

• Briefly describe the topics you will cover this year in Science.

• We will take notes and do experiments.

Social Studies

• Briefly describe the topics you will cover this year in Social Studies.

• We will take notes and do projects and other things.

Our Classroom Community

Class Rules

• Our classroom will have rules. In our classroom, we have rules to help us get along with each other.

• Our class rules are:– Be respectful and responsible.– Follow directions 1st time and not the 2nd and

3rd – Be on time.– Be prepared.

Homework

• I will assign of homework every night. This includes 10 or more minutes of reading.

• Your homework is due every morning.

• If you need don’t do your homework or were absent then you need to come to silent lunch or recess to finish it.

Tardiness

• School starts at 10:00 a.m.

• If you aren’t in the classroom by the time the morning bell rings, please check in at the tardy desk before coming to class.

• If you are tardy four times, you will have consequences.

Field Trips

• We have lots of fun field trips planned for this year!– We will attend the Richmond Ballet Center,

Science Museum, and the arts and craft center.– If you get more than 2 tardies or get

suspended from school you will not be able to go the field trips.

– We will take maybe a charter bus or school bus to the Richmond Ballet Center and Arts and Craft center.
