Class Objectives

To teach art using 21st century skills, primarily by guiding students to:

• Develop Craft 

• Engage  

• Observe 

• Reflect

• Explore 

• Understand Artist Communities

What are 21st Century Skills?

21st century skills can be grouped into the following categories:• Information, Media and Technology Skills• Life and Career Skills• Learning and Innovation Skills

Information, Media and Technology

• In our classroom we pay particular focus to the Information, Media and Technology category

• We achieve this through: 

o Information Literacy

o Media Literacy

o Information, Communication & Technology (ITC) Literacy

• The use and management of information 

What is Information Literacy?

Classroom Example: Cubism

• Information Literacy to apply to our studies of Cubism in the following ways:

o Explore through accessing  online museum catalogues 

o Sharing images for interactive class discussion

o Engage in classroom painting session

What is Media Literacy?

• The ability to analyze media

• The creation of media products

Classroom Example: Media and Message 

• Discussions to focus on artists and their choice of media

• Students to observe examples from history 

• Class will explore how lesson extends beyond art and into areas such as technology

What is ICT (Information, Communications &Technology) Literacy?

• The ability to apply technology effectively

Classroom Example: The Online Portfolio Project

• Students to build an online portfolio to represent their best work

• Student objectives for the project include learning to:

o Analyze their own personal work

o Select pieces that represent quality work

o Photograph images to best represent art piece

o Reflect on learnings from the whole academic year

o Apply technology appropriately
