A Year of Transition

As BBS forged ahead with the Strategic Plan to implement a wireless campus and the BYOD policy for students, a welcome challenge presented itself in the HSMC. Keep up with current trends in student learning by changing the delivery of information and the way we envision library services or become obsolete.

24/7 Ubiquitous Access

April was an especially busy month for the HSMC website—with over 80 page views on April 30—due to Honors 10 database

research.

Anytime, Anywhere Research

• Eleven databases for classroom/home use:

– Science: Facts on File Health and Wellness

– English: Bloom’s Literary Reference Center

– Humanities: ABC-CLIO Humanities Suite

– General Reference: Encyclopedia Britannica, Newsbank

– Arabic: Al Manhal (trial)

Follett Shelf eBooks

• 30 Reference Titles Added for classroom/home use

• 120 checkouts for 2013-2014

• 15 Titles Added for 2014-2015

• Usage will improve as teachers promote and use these resources with students.

Maker Space

The Green Screen arrived in late November. Once word leaked out that it was set up, students began to come. Students from Ms. Candice’s speech classes filmed first, and then Mr. Steve’s English classes scheduled extensively in March and April for Project Based Assessment. Thinking forward, the Green Screen could be the beginning of a Broadcast Journalism class in the High School or Middle School.

over 400 books per month this year, on a consistent basis.

Challenges Ahead

Encouraging teachers to utilize the HSMC space and resources, even with BYOD and wireless.
