Keyword Stuffing

• A technique in which the page is loaded with hundreds, thousands of keywords to manipulate search ranking

• Examples of Keywords Stuffing

– Filling pages with Phone Numbers

– Filling pages with cities and states names

– Repeating same keywords many number of times in the content

• Hiding the keywords/links to avoid user detection but search engine can still see the keywords.

• Examples of Hidden Text– Same text and background color

– Hiding text behind an Image

– Using CSS to hide the text from use visibility

– Setting font size to 0

• The technique in which different URLS are displayed to search engine and users

• Examples of Cloaking

– Displaying HTML Content to Search Engines and Graphics content to Users

– Inserting the keywords in page with the User-Agent is search engine but not the user browsers

Sneaky Redirects

• Redirecting is the act of sending a visitor to a different URL than the one they initially requested.

• Some examples of sneaky redirects include:

– Search engines shown one type of content while users are redirected to something significantly different.

– Desktop users receive a normal page, while mobile users are redirected to a completely different spam domain.

• Buying or selling links that pass PageRank can dilute the quality of search results.

• Examples

– Any website displaying Ads without Rel=Nofollow is consider as paid links

• Using automated programs or services to create links

• Doorway pages are typically large sets of poor-quality pages where each page is optimized for a specific keyword or phrase.

• Some examples of doorways include:

– Having multiple domain names targeted at specific regions or cities that funnel users to one page

– Templated pages made solely for affiliate linking

– Multiple pages on your site with similar content

• content taken (“scraped”) from other, more reputable sites

• An example of a thin affiliate includes:

– Sites that copy and republish content from other sites without adding any original content or value

– Sites that copy content from other sites, modify it slightly
