ANDREW GOODWIN'S THEORY

Blur-Song 2

The song

The concept of the song is, all four band members playing the song with instruments but when the chorus starts the members start flying around the room and against the walls. This concept breaks the mould that most normal music videos follow this is why it is an interesting performance based song.

Performance based

This music video is clearly performance based as it shows the band members playing instruments and the lead singer Damon Albarn leans forward as if he is singing to the imaginary audience.

The use of performance music videos is to advertise the energy that they have when performing live and this makes the viewer want to see a concert.

Lyrics to Visuals

The music video itself doesn’t actually represent the words that are being sung, this is mainly because the video is so bizarre that it would make more sense to separate the two.

Show voyeurism and intertextual references..

As the video only contains the band members(Who are all men) there is a definite lack of show voyeurism.

Due to its originality it is quite hard to pickup on intertextual references in the video.

Visuals to music

As the chorus starts and the tone gets a lot more heavier and rock like the artists start flying around the room, this is to show the impact and energy that is given off from the rhythm

Notions of looking

A sense of personality is given to this video as the singer is constantly looking at the camera( Audience).

This helps because it draws the attention of the user as they feel they are watching a live video.

COMPARISON

Compared to the other types of videos, performance has been the most entertaining, this is most likely due to the fact that the band are young at the time of this song and this is represented by the speed of the video.

Videos like without me by Eminem, have ahigher budget and therefor moreentertainment. But other videos like La la laare used to tell a meaningful story whileselling the song. In my opinion the musicvideo sells the song and this is what Naughtyboy intended to do when he designed thestory
