Childhood Maturity

Introduction

• The topic I chose was on childhood maturity. Maturity develops at different rates in every person, depending on the difficulties of their life. I chose this topic because I wanted to learn how children mentally develop into adults through any possible given situation.

One day, a precious baby boy was born. His name was Sam. He was loved dearly by everyone around him.

Sam had an older brother, Andrew. They were always happy and playfully vivid. Their childhood was full of imaginative possibilities. They were quite happy until tragedy struck.

The tragedy that struck was that their father was diagnosed with cancer. Everyone in the family pulled together and tried to encourage him. Then after a long fight with cancer, Sam's father died.

Sam’s mother was then thrown through a spell of depression. The tragic lose of her husband left her incapable of normal responsibilities. So, her children had to fend for herself for a while.

After some time, Sam’s brother, who tried to help their mother, but became distraught over her behavior, joined the army to gain some perspective and dignity. Andrew left Sam all by his self to help his mother cope with her depression, which she slowly overcame.

Shortly thereafter, the economy went under great stress and collapsed. Thus, forcing middle class and lower class to survive by any means necessary. What was left of Sam’s family, were suppressed and his mother had to acquire two jobs.

Sam’s mother was hardly ever home because of her time consuming jobs, so Sam was left to himself many hours of the day. He became very lonely and so he escaped to his imagination. His imagination started to wither into horrible tragedies of life.

As Sam became older, he became more responsible and thus started the beginning of a new life. He had to do all the things a parent would normally do. He did all the house hold chores and repairs. He learned many great skills from this.

One day Sam’s mother sat him down for a talk. She told him that she had being seeing someone and she was pregnant. In a few short months she was forced to quit her jobs because it was difficult and strenuous work.

Sam by this time was 17, so he was able to get a good paying job through his friend’s father. He started off small and slowly worked his way up. He was promoted twice in his high school life, so he was quite respected there.

Sam underwent great stress, which he persevered through. He was able to get through school and his job every day. However, it came with much stress and hardships.

Finally, Sam’s mother’s boyfriend asked her to marry him and thus began a new life. This allowed Sam to focus more on school because the new husband was able to support the new family quite well. Sam, given the extra time to focus on his education, excelled in school.

Now that Sam was focused on his education, he was able to obtain a few scholarships. Also, his step-father pitched in to give him some money as well. Thus, he was given the ability to go off to a community college.

Thus Sam had a short childhood and due to tragic events, he had to become smarter and more intuitive for any situation that was thrown at him. He was able to mature faster than most people due unruly events. All in all, it boiled down to the survival of the fittess.

Conclusion

• This project has shed a new perspective on the way I look at life. People have to be in other’s shoes to know what their life is like. Everyone has different difficulties, but we all get through them. Certain hardships lead people to mature faster than others.
