Cosmic Shapes

Glenn Hirsch, Instructor

There is a universal language of "SHAPE."

Certain archetypal forms of movement may be found in all flowing media, regardless of their composition: water, clouds, sea shells, onions, cracked and dried riverbeds, trees, the human form.

A spiral pattern, for example, can be found in water flowing down a drain, the pattern of hair growing from the crown of a child’s head, or a spiral galaxy.

Artists use this inspiration to create art … we see photographs by Edward Weston and paintings by Van Gogh, Picasso, Henry Moore,

Andre Masson, Diego Rivera, Caspar David Friedrich,

and Alan Davis.

Also photographs by Theodor Schwenk from his book "Sensitive

Chaos: The Creation of Flowing Forms."
