Costume and Make-Up

The images below depict the clothing and make-up that will be used to dress up the young actor who will play the character of the younger past sister who has been possessed by a cult and now her presence remains in the house which has be sold to a new family; of two sisters and their young hardworking mother.

White face-paint to give a pale, almost corpse like complexion.

Fake blood will be used on the possessed child when she is killing. Blood is also a general convention of horror.

Liquid eyeliner to make the area around the eyes look darker to give a tired appearance.

Hair short and dark: appear wet & greasy looking. Short hair is more appropriate for a young girl from her time period (1935 – 1945).

White nightgown which creates an impression of innocence and childishness.

She will appear vulnerable with her bare feet on show and can make people think she is sleepwalking or is under a trance, ergo, not in control of what she is doing.

Images below illustrate the types of costumes that will be worn by the past sisters and possibly the town’s old lady. (They are the two girls who initially experienced the cult and its dangers). The clothes are meant to help create more a vintage look and to show the old lady’s age.

This is the type of clothing and hairstyle that will be worn and used by the two modern sisters.

The older sister will wear a sleeveless blue polo neck top. It reveals the arms which makes her look more vulnerable. The blue colour can be associated with innocence and even the Vingin Mary’s blue veil. It shows that the older sister is a good character.

Straight leg denim jeans. Jeans are usually what female horror protagonists wear. It also reminds the audience that she is still a young adult and may still prefer comfort to appearance.

Funky/Retro silver rain mac jacket. Shows that the older sister is practical. The shiny silver colour will stand out in the dark, showing the she is like a beacon in the dark.

Stylish comfortable trainers worn for travelling. They are practical and tell the audience that this character is not some damsel in distress that can’t protect herself and wears expensive looking stylish shoes.

Small patterned suitcase to make it clear that the characters have been traveling and are in a place.

Long, thick, straight brown hair. Both sisters will have this kind of hair. It makes it easier to tell that they are sisters. The hair also brings out the appearance of innocence and youth to show that the girls are being thrown into a mature problem and have to fend for themselves.

Locations

The house we plan to film in, is situated in Harrow Wealdstone. The appearance from the outside suits the two time periods within our narrative. The house looks very vintage and slightly old fashioned however, at the same time, its appears to be very modern looking due to the fact that it is painted white and the windows are outwardly curved.

To date the house on the left has been painted white therefore making the shots look more effective as the houses have the same appearance.

We may use the church located near Uxbridge. We would film exterior shot of this church and the graveyard. This location will feature in the scene where the older modern sister meets the ‘old wise lady of the town’ and she is told the shocking history of the house that she has just moved into.

The 427 bus goes past this church in Uxbridge so it is fairly easy to get to.

This is another church we favour in using because it has a graveyard and a bench where the actors would sit. It is also located close to our school, so it would be easy to film there at any time.

We may also film in Fassnidge park that is situated in Uxbridge. It features a canal and some great secret pathways through a small forest that has been created by local walkers. These would prove useful in the scenes where the older sisters are running through the woods in search of their younger sisters.
