1. Interactive Classrooms

• Equip every NSW public school with an Interactive Classroom:– interactive whiteboard– video conferencing facilities– data collaboration and sharing software

2. Learning Tools

• Provision of the latest Web 2.0 technologies to staff and students for teaching and learning– blogEd (blogging tool)– eBackpack (virtual/cloud storage)– SPortal (new student Portal)

Digital Education Revolution (DER)

• The Commonwealth and NSW Governments commitment to provide a wirelessly enabled specialist educational laptop to every NSW public school student in years 9 to 12.

• Four year, $386million project with over 200,000 laptops distributed across 500+ school sites. Ended December 2013.

Digital Education Revolution (DER)

• Since 2009 the DER-NSW program has delivered:– 254,166 laptops to students – wireless access points in over 21,000 learning

spaces– professional learning experiences to teachers

and leaders across the state– more than 250 online resources, – Support to schools with 560 school based

Technology Support Officers.

• Synchronous use of a range of peripheral digital technologies

• Multimodal nature of the device afforded new opportunities for learning

• Sharing work and just-in time feedback

Evaluation Conclusion

“The iPad encouraged a shift towards a student-centred, personalised learning environment. ….As with any technological innovation ….it is the role of the teacher that is central to its success. As this study has exemplified, teachers play a critical role in aligning curriculum, pedagogy and technology through the design and implementation of authentic and engaging learning experiences.”

• Puentedura (2006) developed a Substitution, Augmentation, Modification, Redefinition (SAMR) model.

• Designed to help educators identify different ways in which they can integrate technology into teaching and learning practices.

• Puentedura’s model can be considered as a continuum from novice level (substitution) to an advanced, ideal level of technology integration (redefinition) to encourage teachers to seek optimal ways to include technology in learning experiences.

• Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) is a framework that identifies the knowledge teachers need to teach effectively with technology.

• The TPACK framework extends Shulman’s idea of Pedagogical Content Knowledge.

• The Levels of Teaching Innovation (LoTi) Framework is a conceptual model to measure classroom teachers implementation of digital-age literacy .

• The LoTi Framework focuses on the balance between instruction, assessment, and the effective use of digital tools and resources to promote higher order thinking, engaged student learning, and authentic assessment practices in the classroom -all characteristics of 21st Century teaching and learning.
