WHITE-TAILED DEER

DESCRIPTION
White-tailed deer are mammals. They can live
for 15 years. Males have a rack of antlers. Males
grow new antlers every year. They have very
long legs. White-tailed deer are good jumpers
and swimmers. They have split hooves. There
antlers tell the age. They can be 2m long and
1m tall.
HABITAT
White-tailed deer live in clearings, forest, the bank
of streams, farmland and near families. White-tailed
deer do not build homes.
FOOD
. White tailed deer eats plants, grass, weeds, twigs,
buds and leaves. They also eat acorns, moss,
mushrooms, apples in fall, bark from birch, willow
and cedar trees in winter. White-tailed deer eat at
night.
PROTECTION
White-tailed deer stand still, smell the air and escape
the water.
BABIES
The babies are called fawns. Fawns are the same
weight as a newborn human baby. White-tailed deer
have 1 to 2 babies. Fawns lose spots when they grow
up.
Fawns can stand up when they are born.
ENEMIES
White-tailed enemies are:
Wolves, cougars, lynxes, coyotes and people can be
a enemies.
INTERESTING FACTS
The white tailed deer have 32 teeth and no top front
teeth. Their families are called herds. The males are
called bucks. The females are called does. They have
a litter every year. They can run 60 km. an hour and
they can run as fast as a moving car which is fast as
a horse. White tailed deer are color blind.
