WHAT TO INCLUDE? Minimum of 4 sides

Special features to include- e.g. pull out lyrics, poster, freebies- perhaps it

could include a diary saying ‘give a voice to your thoughts’. This matches

with the message of my music video that everyone has a voice, which needs

an outlet.

Track list at the back if its an album

For realism of an authentic cover use Bar code, music company logo and

information, and copyright information all at the back of the album

Themes of the music video to be represented on the album cover, incorporating

the sense of a lack of voice and isolation from society, which is conveyed in

my music video. After researching several digipack covers, I discovered that they

represented the mood and tone within the songs in that album.

Rihanna has a reoccurring colour scheme running

throughout her album cover, which is red which makes

her album eye catching and reinforces the theme of

love and passion which is present in her songs. I also

aim to make my digipack cover to represent the

themes present in the music video.

ANALYSING ALBUM COVERSImmediately the audience is drawn to the artist on the front cover, for there is a shadow depth of field, meaning that the background is blurred and she is in focus. The background colours resemble that of a desert featuring warm tones like brown and yellow, which reflects the album title ‘Desert Rose’. On my album cover I would also have to represent the singles title ‘Silence’ by representing the artist as isolated. The women’s black clothing is a contrast to the soft colours in the background, making her more visually striking, establishing her as the artist.

CONTINUATIONAdditionally, the women is holding a sombrero, which has

cultural implications, that she is from Mexico or America as

its typically worn in those countries.

On one of the inside covers there is a man and a women

sitting down, looking away from each other, perhaps

suggesting their unhappiness. This potentially reveals that the

album is about relationship issues.

The warm colours are reoccurring throughout the

digipack, which adds to the western idea as it very much

resembles colours associated with a desert.

HOW I CAN APPLY TH IS TO MY D IG IPACK

After observing several album covers, I feel like I need to represent the

themes and storyline of my music video through the images and colours I

select.

Like the digipacks I analysed, I need to capture the songs genre on my

digipack. Rihanna’s album cover represented the pop genre due to the very

sensual images, showing the main focus was on the stars image. In contrast,

the album ‘Desert Rose’ a country feel was established through the rural

background.

I need to make my artist my main focus.

Need to find a suitable colour scheme. For example, black may be the

predominant colour of my digipack to represent depression.

PL ANNING OUT IDEAS FRONT COVER?

Because my main theme is about a lack of voice in society, maybe using a

mouth cover with the singles title ‘Silence’ reinforces this idea.

Or put a cross over her mouth ‘X’

The fact that we don’t see the artists face also enhances her isolation

and irrelevance in society.

•Additionally, the fact that we cant SILENCE

PL ANNING OUT IDEAS BACK COVER This could potentially work for

the back cover because of the

sheer sadness and isolated

tone created in this image.

The fact that she’s on the side

of the frame further suggests

her segregation from society.

The dark lighting casts a

shadow over her face,

representing her depression.

Track list

The shot represents the artist as being in isolation as she is walking alone across the beach. Additionally, I would add a blue tinge to the image to add to the lonely feel.

INSIDE COVERS

For my inside covers, I was planning on having a

spread of black colour, which would spread across

the three inside covers to represent the key theme of

depression.

Hold, hold your tongue now and let them all listen to your silence Hold, hold your tongue now

and let them all listen to your silence. Hold, hold your tongue now and letthem all listen to your silence. Hold, hold your tongue now and let them all listen to your silence. Hold, hold your tongue now and let them all listen to your silence

The CD disk could include the lyrics of the song. These lyrics are repeated throughout the song and its sounds almost like a girls diary entry. Therefore, I used a handwriting style font.
