SIBERIAN HUSKYDescription/Introduction

The Siberian husky originated from Siberia, Russia. It is a medium sized dog, weighing approximately16-25 kg. A Siberian husky is identifiable by their triangle shaped ears, thick double coat of fur, and unique markings on

their bodies. An average Husky’s life span is 12-14 years. The most common coats of a Husky are White and Black,

then less commonly copper, grey and pure white.

SIBERIAN HUSKYHistory

Siberian Huskies were bred to pull heavy loads through difficult conditions and long distances, also known as

‘Sled Dogs’, but are now often family pets as well. People have said that the term “husky”, comes from Eskimo’s

being nicknames “Esky”. Many Huskies were imported to Alaska in 1908, to be used as sled dogs – often used in a 408 mile dog sled race from Nome to Candle, and back,

called the “All Alaska Sweepstakes”.

SIBERIAN HUSKYCharacteristics

A Siberian Huskies coat is thicker than most other dogs, which protects the dog in the cold Artic weather, and can also reflect

the heat. A Huskies double coat of fur allows them to be in temperatures as low as −50 to −60 °C. You can often come

across Huskies with two different coloured eyes, called heterochromia. Huskies are often seen curling their tails over their faces to give themselves extra warmth, especially when

sleeping. Huskies are not very often heard barking, but sometimes can be heard howling. Huskies need frequent

company from other dogs or people, so may try and escape if they are a pet, as they also were first bred to be sled dogs.

King Charles Cavalier Spaniel

Introduction/HistoryThroughout the earlier parts of the 18th century, John Churchill, The first Duke of Marlborough, kept red and

white King Charles Spaniels and used them for hunting. He said that the King Charles Spaniels could keep up with

a trotting horse. John Churchill’s estate was named Blenheim in honour of his victory at the Battle of

Blenheim. Due to this influence, the red and white variety of the King Charles Cavalier Spaniel became known as

Blenheim.

Introduction/History continued..The divergence from the King Charles Cavalier Spaniel saw that, in 1926, American Roswell Eldridge offered a

dog show prize of twenty-five pounds each as a prize for the best male and females of “Blenheim Spaniels” World War Two say a dramatic set back to the breed with the majority of the breeding stock having to be destroyed

due to hardship. And the history of the breed in America is somewhat recent, with the first ever Spaniel recorded living in the states was brought from the united kingdom

in 1956.

King Charles Cavalier Spaniel Characteristics

The King Charles spaniel is one of the larger toy breeds. It is smaller in comparison to other spaniel breeds. Breed

standards state that the height of a cavalier is usually between 10-13 inches, and weigh approximately 4.5kgs –

8.2kgs. Feathering grows on their ears, feet, legs and tails in adulthood and feathering on the feet is one of the

main important features of the breed’s features. The breed has four recognised colours, they have rich

chestnut markings on a pearly white background. Black and tan are dogs with black background bodies with tan highlights. Ruby cavaliers should be entirely chest nut all over, although some may have white in their coats. And the fourth colour is known as tri-colour, which is black

and white with tan markings. This colour is referred to as “Prince Charles” in the King Charles spaniel.

English Bulldogs like to go out for a walk or do some different exercise on a daily basis. Compared to other

dog breeds, English Bulldogs live as relatively short life compared to other dogs. Their life length however

depends on their living condition, genetic health and diet as some bulldogs can have genetic defects, which could

be from poor breeding.
