Bauer Media are currently producing: Mojo (pop), Kerrang (rock and punk) and Q (indie rock). I think there is a gap in their portfolio for an indie pop/alternative music magazine. So, if I was going down the traditional printing route I would chose Bauer Media to distribute my music magazine.However, after extensive research, I have noticed that online subscription magazines are becoming popular. So, I could also go down the route of having online subscription readers. This way I would be appealing to my target audience of teens and early 20’s who are using new technologies. They will be able to read my magazine on their phones, tablets or laptops for easy access.

My main rivals would be INDIE and FAULT magazine.

INDIE magazine is a digital magazine owned by Plastic Media and is in partnership with Vice Digital. It focuses on indie music andfashion. Readers of this magazine buy an online subscription. If I was going to take the online subscription route INDIE would be my biggest rival.

FAULT is published quarterly in print and is also accompanied by an annual, collectible hardback.It is available for delivery worldwide (Royal Mail within the UK  or standard/tracked DHL Global Mail service) viasubscription or as a single issue – just click the issue below to purchase your print edition. Digital editions are also available here.’- taken from FAULT website. Fault magazine is a Linveco media group publication. Linveco is a global investment group with interests in media and communications, consumer and B2B publishing,intellectual property and digital information platforms. Fault has a similar style to my magazine and I think if I was going to go down the traditional route of printing and distributing, fault would be my biggest rival.

CIRCULATION FIGURES

The circulation figures of magazines owned by Bauer Media are good compared to NME. This proves that Bauer Media are trustworthy to distribute my magazine and will help me achieve good circulation figures. However circulation figures as a whole are decreasing. ‘The average circulation of magazines fell on average by 5 per cent in the first half of 2015, while digital circulation rose to 409,414 in the period, up 21 per cent year-on-year.’- quote from article about magazine circulation growth fuelled by digital technologies. These figures tell me that an online subscription for my magazine might be more appealing as then my readers will be dedicated, rather than readers that occasionally buy my magazine.
