    Empathize & Define Assignment- Stanford 2013Tatyana is a 25 year old student from Russia. She has come to Canada to study English. She has just completed her studies, and is now looking for a job in Canada in-line with her past experience as an Administrative Assistant in a Bank.

    Empathize & Define Assignment- Stanford 2013I am confused.I need help.I dont know where to start.I dont know if my qualifications are recognised.I dont know if my English is good enough.I need an internship.I worry about my future.Who will give me a job?I need to work on my English more.Where will I be one year from now?

    Empathize & Define Assignment- Stanford 2013Tatyana is worried about her future. She is unsure of herself. Her low self-esteem stems from her lack of fluent English speaking skills. She is trying to better her English skills by working with study groups, as well as attending interview and presentation skills workshops to better her chance of getting a good job in Canada.

    Empathize & Define Assignment- Stanford 2013I think Tatyanas concerns are valid.I think Tatyanas wanting to work on her key skills is very encouraging.I think Tatyana is really working hard towards her future.I think Tatyana is on the right track, and only needs a little bit of help along the way.I think Tatyana needs to network and build contacts as she is in a new country.I think Tatyana should work on neutralising her Russian accent when speaking English.

    Empathize & Define Assignment- Stanford 2013I feel Tatyana is a bit too much worried about her situation.I feel Tatyana needs to relax and take a deep breath.I feel Tatyana is overwhelmed by being in a new country and knowing no one.I feel Tatyana has to go out and make more friends.I feel Tatyana needs to work with a student counsellor to work through her job prospects.I feel Tatyana has to meet with more students who are going through the same school-to-work transition like her, and share ideas with them.

  • PROBLEM STATEMENT: TATYANA

    Empathize & Define Assignment- Stanford 2013Tatyana needs a way to improve her English, find a good job and make new friends in Canada because she appears too much worried about her next steps.

  • INSIGHT: TATYANA

    Empathize & Define Assignment- Stanford 2013Tatyana needs to practice her English more, she needs to neutralise her accent and she needs to improve her sentence construction as well. This would help her be more confident and improve her self-esteem. In addition, if Tatyana improves her friend network, it would help her a great deal, in getting to now more people, and becoming a more confident person.
