• It was ivented by Blaine Raine, a Spanish teacher in Bakersfield, California in 1990. He combined the TPR from Dr James Asher and the strategies to acquire a language of Dr Stephen Krashen.

• He used the TPR to make students learn a second language in the same way as they acquire their first one. They must be exposed to the language for a long time first, listening to it.

LEARNING ENGLISH THROUGH READINGLEARNING ENGLISH THROUGH READING

• Children can acquire a language in a natural way without being aware of it. They’ve got a greater capacity to acquire sounds, and they use their own comprehension strategies.

• Just by reading children start to internalize the language and culture very quickly, they are in contact with a lot of vocabulary, grammar and sounds.

• A good advice would be to read our child in English at night or use an audio on the internet.

ENHANCEMENT OF READINGENHANCEMENT OF READING

• When we tell a story, it must be full of life, colours, sounds and gestures so that the children can identify themselves with the characters of the story and put their imagination into play.

• An interesting tool is the use of computer resources like audio books in which we find very famous storytellers. We need to allow the word “reading” to apply as much to listening to text as to using our eyes to take it in.

• Finally the use of fairy tales, nursery rhymes and songs is not just for children. Using them to teach ESL students can be fun and educational. They can learn some vocabulary, intonation patterns, sentence structures, etc.

CONCLUSIONCONCLUSION

• I think it has become clear that reading can not only be fun but it is also necessary to develop children autonomous learning and skills.

• Through books, children can travel to far away lands and learn about life in the jungle or on a cattle ranch.

• Finally, when reading fairy tales or modern fantasy, children learn how to use their imagination, to view situations from various perspectives, and to know that events can be seen from different viewpoints.
