INTERNATIONAL ARTIST: ERNEST ZACHARVIC

ERNEST ZACHAREVIC IS A YOUNG LITHUANIA-BORN ARTIST WHO IS MAKING A SCENE ON THE STREETS OF GEORGE TOWN, PENANG. THIS COMES INTO FORM OF BEAUTIFULLY EXECUTED WALL PAINTINGS, OR MURALS, AT THE SELECTED STREETS IN THE INNER CITY. THE PROJECT, KNOWN AS MIRRORS GEORGE TOWN, IS PART OF GEORGE TOWN FESTIVAL 2012.ERNEST ZACHAREVICS WALL PAINTINGS IN GEORGE TOWN INCLUDE FIGURE DRAWINGS AND PORTRAITURES THAT CELEBRATE THE EXUBERANCE OF LIFE IN THE INNER CITY. IT RANGED FROM THE PENSIVE LITTLE CHILDREN ON A BICYCLE, THE AWAITING TRISHAW PEDALLER AND REACHING UP.

TWO MURAL PRINTINGSAT PENANG1.REACHING UP

PAINTING DESCRIPTIONREACHING UP SHOWS A LITTLE BOY IN PLAIN SHIRT AND PANTS, TIPPING HIS TOE ON A CHAIR AS HIGH AS HE CAN TO REACH FOR THE HOLE. THE WINDOWS OF OLD CHINESE HOUSES WERE SMALL HIGH UP ON THE WALL. THE KID IN THE PAINTING SEEM TO BE CURIOUS OF WHAT WAS HIDING INSIDE OF THE HOUSE, PROBABLY BECAUSE OF A STRONG SMELL OF FOOD COMING FROM THE HOUSE, TRIGGERING HIS SENSES. BUT BECAUSE HE WAS TOO TINY AND SHORT, IT WAS DIFFICULT FOR HIM TO EVEN REACH HIS HANDS ONTO THE EDGE OF THE HOLE. THE JOY ON THEIR FACES ECHOES DOWN THE STREET, PROVIDING A RAY OF CHEER AND ADDING CHARACTER TO ARMENIAN STREET. AS WITH SOME OF THE OTHER WORDS BY ZACHAREVIC, LITTLE CHILDREN ON A BICYCLE COMBINES MURAL PAINTING WITH REAL PROPS, IN THIS CASE, AN OLD BICYCLE, TO CREATE A THREE-DIMENSIONAL RENDITION. THE ARTIST WORDS FROM ACTUAL PHOTOGRAPHS. EVER SINCE THE MURAL WAS COMPLETED IT HAS DRAWN VISITORS IN INCREASING NUMBERS TO STOP OVER AND TAKE SHOTS WITH THEM.
