Page 18: Euscea - Peter Rebernik

18

What is a science festival?

The events are organised mostly in places unusual for science, like railway stations, public places, in shopping malls, churches, museums, light houses in tents, in parks, at the seaside

Page 19: Euscea - Peter Rebernik

19

What is a science festival?

A platform for dialogue of the public with the scientists about scientific issues of importance for society – with “concerned” scientists as “partners”

Page 20: Euscea - Peter Rebernik

20

Festivals take place every year for several days – in every country of the EU (and many other countries) – with great media impact and large & NEW audiences [Estimation: per year > 20 million]

Events are presented mainly by scientists, by students, TEACHERS, sometimes pupils, even actors – in many different ways from lectures to experiments, theatre performances, science cafés, dialogue games (science parliaments, DECIDE), from workshops to camps outside, and guided tours, science taxi…

Festivals deal with different kinds of science (taught at European universities): natural sciences and technology (STEM), humanities and sociology – discuss the role of politics, of law, of the media, of the education system, of religion – and listen to the communities
