In what ways does your media product of film use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

This is the opening shot to our thriller, it is meant to look like a cave has been recreated in the shot.

I feel that it was very well done and looks like a professional job despite being put up in a few hours. This shows that our thriller uses traditional sets like other films.

If we look at another production such as the 2012 Film: The Hunger Games. Here is a screengrab from the trailer and it looks very similar to our thriller when recreating a shot looking out of a cave.

Here is a shot from the popular war film ‘Black Hawk Down’ of a wounded soldier with blood on the floors around him whilst he is laying down on some type of stretcher or table.

Our thriller has a similar shot with the hostage being woken up at the start of the scene before being interrogated and tortured by the militant.

This shot is a conventional one which shows the protagonist interrogating the victim in an aggressive and violent manner. It is scary and adds tension to the scene.

Our thriller uses shots that are similar to real media products and so conforms to traditional techniques used in films making it more realistic as a normal product.

This is a waterboarding sequence taken from the film ‘Apocalypsis’. Despite having their hostage being in a different position, it has a similar appearance to our piece.

This shot is different to those I have seen in thriller’s in the past, I couldn’t find a similar shot so instead I used this underwater shot from James Bond’s Die Another Day in the opening titles.

Our shot is wide angle where the water hits the camera instead. I think this challenges conventional shots that are in films and is a new and original idea.

This gun fight scene from the film ‘Green Zone’ has a very similar colour and feel to our thriller. Both the soldiers have military clothing on and are shooting at something.

The atmosphere created during the action scene is very professional looking in our sequence and the effect makes for an immersive viewing experience for the audience.

The titles I used for the thriller are similar to those used in many war films as well as popular video game titles such as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. It is a standard digital text font that has a military intelligence feel, it was chosen on purpose to link the thriller to others in the same genre.
