Academic year starts from September in Japan

What would happen if each university student were given a gap term before entering

university in Japan?

Japanese universities should starts its academic year from September.

Because •  Encourage students to take a gap term before entering

university.

•  Increase the number of Japanese students who participate in overseas academia.

•  Attract international exchange students to Japan.

Encourage students to take a gap year.

Recently in Japan... •  Gap year is getting more common among university

students.

•  Akita International University, Waseda University and Keio university are already introduced gap year admission.

•  However, still it is not well known to people.

Encourage students to take a gap year.

In the United Kingdom... •  250,000 young people took domestic or international gap

year in 2004.

•  Engaging to a volunteer work, doing overseas working holidays, and doing internship.

Effects •  To be more concerned about their own future by through

a gap term.

•  There are the possibility to boost the Japanese economy.

Students will become more globally competitive and develop their communication skills

by understanding a gap year, such as studying abroad, doing volunteer work and by doing an internship.

Recently... •  Declining the number of students going abroad to study

in Japan.

•  Contrast, China and Korea, India students are increasing annually.

Compare... •  Universities in western countries such as US, UK and

Canada starts its academic year starts from September.

•  Meet up with a global standard, and make students have global competitive edge.

commented, “Changing entrance schedule problem is not only for university but also it is related to the social structural issues, and I recognize that it is difficult under present situations.

Some difficulties are argued... •  It is become more difficult for teachers works at high

school to educate about career to their students.

•  Companies will resist to fall enrolment, as they might change their job-hunting schedules.

Conclusion

Agree with fall enrolment of universities by... •  We can encourage students to take a gap year.

–  To be more concerned about own future and career. –  Boost Japanese global competitive power.

•  Increase the number of people who challenge studying abroad. –  It is necessary to gain variety of knowledge by cultural shocks.

•  More international exchange students come to Japan. –  Meet up a global standard.
