What effect do camera angles, editing techniques and sound have on the
audience?
Melissa Shearer
This shot reverse shot shows a close relationship between the two characters, as it focuses on each of their faces in turn in a close up, showing their emotions. The soft and gentle music coupled with the natural lighting of the scene gives the audience the impression of a romantic relationship between the two characters.
The two mid shots are faded together softly, which fits in with the gentle non-diegetic music in the background to give the scene a romantic tone, and shows the love between the two characters.
The use of an arc shot in this scene shows the emotions of the character from every angle, as well as further introducing the audience to the setting of the show – a large manor house.
The tracking zoom in this shot follows the hand as it moves down the woman’s body, which indicates to the audience her want for a more physical relationship with her partner.
The track used in this scene follows the action of the characters running, and exaggerates the speed and motion of the shot whilst still keeping up with them.
In this scene, the tilt follows the man as he moves down her body, whilst still keeping her face in frame. This has the effect on the audience of showing both what he is doing and her reaction to it, as it is clear from her facial expression that she is extremely uncomfortable with his advances.
