18 Kindergarten students 12 Caucasian & 6 African Americans
My 18 First Grade students, 12 Caucasian and 6 African American, will distinguish the differences of the five senses and their importance by making a Senses Anchor Chart with knowledge from a movie, class discussions, a song, and testing their own senses with real objects by the end of the week with 90% accuracy.
Day 1: A song about the 5 senses will be taught on this day then we will begin with sight. Students will interact with a WebQuest on sight then we will have a class discussion about what they learned. They will then create an interactive poster to be used and shared with their classmates and will end the lesson with I-Spy.
Day 2: Day 2:Hear. I will teach about hearing. Students will, in groups, create storytelling videos about hearing to share with the class. Then they will continue with group discussion and end the lesson with the telephone game as a whole class.
Day 3:Touch. Students will watch a short video about touch. They will then listen to poems about “touch” and the lesson will end with a center for the students to touch different textures I have set out.
Day 4:Smell. Students will use Photoshop to create pictures of smelling in action. They will also make a QR for their pictures that includes questions with an answer key about their pictures. The students will then continue the discussion of smell by making their own “smell” poems. The lesson will end with smelling different fragrances I have set up at a center.
Day 5:Taste. Students will listen to a Podcast about taste. Discussion will begin through a version of a KWL chart then the lesson will end with a taste test of different foods brought in.
We will have a review discussion of all 5 senses then the students will make their anchor charts.
