THE MEMORIAL MUSEUM “CALISTRAT HOGAŞ” PIATRA NEAMŢ

THE MEMORIAL MUSEUM “CALISTRAT HOGAŞ” celebrates

40 years of existence

The writer CALISTRAT HOGAS was a teacher for the older highschool in town

He loved nature and in his writings he presented the picturesque surroundings of the town and the simple life of the people

Two of his most known writings are:

The mountain residents- “ LOCUITORII MUNTELUI” On mountain roads-“PE DRUMURI DE MUNTE”

is his masterpiece

Here are some important quotations from his books, describing the local people

She was a not a very tall woman, she had big brown eyes, that would look right though your soul when she rested her sight on someone, and although she wasn’t young her eyes were still burning with the fire of youth and passion. Her mouth a little big, and her lips although wrinkled, were still full, and any man that looked at her could not abstain from sinful thoughts.

Avrum displayed all the beauties of his kind (he was a man of the mountain): high forehead coved in a thin skin and slightly wrinkled, small eyes that moved quickly behind those bald eyelids and blushed cheeks; his nose was crooked. He had a long face wrapped in a wild beard and his side whiskers like two shiny bolts trembling came down from his temples to his mouth.

To the greatest

glory of our Romanian kind, our peasants seem to be gifted with a tin stomach, but this doesn’t mean that our men that live in the mountains don’t have a burnt and wrinkled face and women look just like wild goats with long and beautiful legs.

The writer EMIL NICOLAE, being the host told us:

“I hope CALISTRAT HOGAS wherever he is he can see this. In his journeys he probably attended gathering like this and he would he happy to have one here.”

“ Someone in the center of a town in the 21-st century would probably be amazed when seeing such an event. But this shows that in Piatra Neamţ we can do it and we hope the Europeans will appreciate this display. “

The headmaster of our collegeMRS. MARIANA PALEU said:“Tradition has to be preserved so

we can pass it to future generations. We have to show Europe that we can be different, and that we can preserve our traditions, and our costumes so we can show them off.

I a glad to be here today and this event is the first step in our collaboration with the “CARMEN SECULARAE” CULTURE AND ARTS CENTER.

We hope we will have further collaborations from youth to adults and adults to old people because we all have a great deal to from each other.”

The manager of the “CARMEN SECULARAE” CULTURE AND

ARTS CENTER MR.IONUT CUCOARA ended

this activity with these words:“It is a special day for Piatra

Neamţ, what MR. Munteanu and MRS. Mariana Paleu are doing here today is an extraordinary thing.

It is wonderful to see the young generation wear these beautiful costumes and feel so Romanian, celebrating the traditions that have been passed from one generation to another.

I wish you all the best and joy and I hope we will have more collaborations.”

At the FOLK GATHERING The young people led by

MR.MUNTEANU and accompanied by the adults in the orchestra danced , sang, sewed, wound wool and memories and at the end they gave away cheese pies and pretzels according to the Romanian tradition.

The seniors at the “CARMEN SECULARAE” CULTURE AND ARTS

CENTER also danced, sang and shared their knowledge with the young

people.

We accomplished:

A first step in the collaboration with “CARMEN SECULARAE” CULTURE AND ARTS CENTER, showing that traditions can be kept alive, young and old can come together through music and dance.

What we want to improve:1. Intercultural communication between

generations2. Communication using different foreign

languages3. Communication with the help of the

computer and internet4. Communication through arts

Thank you very much.
