I am going into my fourth year of college and I’ve been living off of student loans and haven’t been getting any public assistance.

Call to Action: Put together a petition to take to the public aid office

Students not only have to save money to cover basic living expenses, they also have to consider saving for loan

repayment. Some students also have the obligation of paying interest on their loans while they are still in school.

Students already have plenty of expenses. A non traditional student that doesn’t go to a school where they can live on

campus must cover bills, on top of school financial obligations like books and tuition.

Nutrition plays a part in a students ability to concentrate on function properly. Having to worry about where the

next meal may come from should not be one more added stressor to a student’s life.

Students are part of a demographic of people that are trying to take steps towards bettering their lives and

making contributions to society. Dependency for students of public assistance programs is assumed to not be

indefinite.

Let’s take a different look at what the definition of public assistance is! Who

should it be for? Perhaps a specialized program

should be developed for students in need.

There are programs for low income families, students with dependents, and veterans. Programs like WIC allow certain foods up to a certain amount be purchased every month. SImilar guidlines could be applied to a student assistance

program.

collaboration of other students with similar views in similar need, how can we expect and further attention or action to

take place?

the opportunity to work towards a career, and essentially a better life.
