Creating

my Front

Cover.

Background

I used the fill tool to change the initial background colour from white to a pale blue. I have chosen this colour as I feel it is a colour that suits the target audience and it won’t clash with the brighter colours such as pink and yellow once the cover is complete.

Initial background and masthead

I have added the yellow header at the top of the page where the slogan will be placed. I have also added the masthead (which was originally created on MS Word) and a pink box underneath this which will be the base of where the main image is going to be placed. The pink box also highlights the top part of the page and draws the readers eye to the masthead.

Main image

I have cut out my chosen image using the ‘magic wand tool’ and then placed it in the correct position on my front cover. I have also brightened the image slightly using the ‘dodge tool’ and increased the contrast to that it blends slightly more with the colours I have chosen for my cover. I have used the ‘brush tool’ to remove a shadow from around her hair.

Adding bases for images

I have now added the base shapes for the images of the cover artists ‘Sammi’ and ‘Molly Rose’. These shapes will act as a border for the images I am going to place on there. I have also added the base for the footer where I will use my own images to act as free posters available inside the magazine. I have added a circle where I will put text to create a ‘flash’ and a background where ‘Nicki’ will appear.

Flash 1

The text has been added into the first flash along with a heart and a box above the large blue box where I will soon add a pull quote to entice the audience and advertise the interview with ‘Nicki’.

Flash 2

This is the base for the second flash. I have decided to use a black border around the edge of the yellow flash to separate it from everything else and make it stand out to advertise the magazine content.

Smaller images and text

I have added the images on the left hand side of the page. I have cut out the models and placed them on a brighter pink background to remove any shadows and help them blend with the rest of the cover. I have also added the name of the cover artist which is bigger than the rest of the text to make it seem like the most important feature in the magazine.

Text

‘Poster mania’, ‘6 exclusive posters’ and a barcode have now been added. The text is in a bold font to grab the attention of the reader and advertise the free posters. The barcode is also a very important feature and is something that is seen on every single magazine.

Pull Quotes

I have added in the pull quotes to give an insight into the articles advertised on the left hand side. The quotes I have used mention things that teens would be interested in reading and would attract there attention.

Text on the flash

I have included a title in a different font to emphasise the offer. I have also added some smaller hearts as a border around the text, separating it from everything else.

Adding to the footer

I have began to add images to act as free posters inside the magazine. I have used a black rectangle underneath the image to add a border once the image is on top. I have decided to use some images from concerts to give a different location as many of the images have plain backgrounds.

I have started to create a third flash on the cover as many of the pop magazines are very full and all gaps are filled. It also gives the magazine another thing to advertise.

Flash 2 text

I have now added the text onto the second flash. I decided to write ‘WIN’ in capitals to draw the readers eye and underline it to make it seem more important.

Page 14: Front cover

Flash 3 text

I have written on the text for the third flash. I originally wrote ‘A chance to meet 1D’ but edited this to ‘your’ to make it seem more direct. I have also moved it across to stop it from merging with the pull quote underneath ‘Sammi’.

Pull quote

I have added the pull quote to draw people into wanting to read the main article with the cover artist.

Posters

All of the posters have been added to the footer.

Smaller details

I have added the price in pounds, euros and dollars as many magazines are sold in Europe and America, especially ones including worldwide stars. I have also included the logo of the publishing company next to the barcode. Egmont publishers publish more than one teen pop magazine.
