gaan gebeuren, de toekomst (Future tense).
I’m going to bake a pie this afternoon.

We kijken naar vier varianten voor de Future:
Future met will:
It will rain tonight.
Future met to be going to:
I am going to do the dishes.
Future met present simple:

‘Will (not) + hele werkwoord’ gebruik je voor voorspelling waar je GEEN bewijs
voor hebt, voor aanbod, instemming, belofte en verzoek.
It will rain and storm tonight.
He will win tomorrow’s match, I’m sure.
They won’t do their homework for geography.
Those boxes look really heavy. I’ll help you carry them.

Als je iemands mening vraagt (vooral bij aanbod of suggestie)
kun je shall + hele werkwoord gebruiken.
We hebben het dan alleen over Shall I…? of Shall we…?
Shall I ask Jim to bring his dog?
Shall I bake a pie for the party?
What shall we watch tonight?
Shall we leave you to it? You don’t need us here.

Future met to be going to
‘to be going to + hele werkwoord’ gebruik je als je voorspellingen doet waarvoor je
WEL bewijs hebt. De situatie NU geeft aan dat het gaat gebeuren. Je gebruikt het
ook om aan te geven dat je iets van plan ben.
I watched the news, it is going to be sunny on Friday.
She says she feels terrible. I think she is going to feel sick.
We are going to play tennis later this week.
We are going to visit grandma in hospital tonight.
The chef is going to cut off his arm!

Future met present continuous
‘to be + ww-ing’ gebruik je als je een afspraak hebt. Bij ‘to be going to + ww’
ben je het van plan. Bij ‘to be + ww-ing’ heb je het ook met een ander AFGESPROKEN.
Verschil?
1. I am going to see my grandma this afternoon. (last slide)
2. I am seeing my grandma this afternoon.

Future met present continuous
‘to be + ww-ing’ gebruik je als je een afspraak hebt. Bij ‘to be going to + ww’
ben je het van plan. Bij ‘to be + ww-ing’ heb je het ook met een ander AFGESPROKEN.
Verschil?
1. I am going to see my grandma this afternoon. (last slide)
je bent van plan/hebt besloten oma te bezoeken, maar nog niet geregeld/afgesproken.
2. I am seeing my grandma this afternoon.
Je hebt oma gesproken en geregeld/afgesproken dat je langs komt.
Vaak is het verschil erg klein en zijn beide mogelijk.

Future met present continuous
‘to be + ww-ing’ gebruik je als je een afspraak hebt gemaakt, het is geregeld.
Sarah is getting married in May.
What time are we seeing your brother tonight?
I’m going to the cinema.
Wendy is at the station at 10 PM. I’m meeting her at the busstop at ten past ten.
We are running ten miles tonight. Jeff is joining us.

Future met present simple
Je kunt ook de present simple gebruiken voor de toekomende tijd. Alleen voor
vaste tijden, zoals reisschema’s, bus/trein dienstregelingen en (les)roosters.
Maar ook als je plannen vaststaan, toch blijft de present continuous wel gebruikelijker.
French starts at 09:20 in room 305.
I leave for London tomorrow at noon.
The shops close at 5 P.M. on Sundays.
Our plane arrives in 20 minutes at Heathrow Airport.
He starts his new job on Thursday.
