Our cityOur city• Genova is a beautiful city in the north-west of Italy,

it is in the middle of the Gulf of Genova. It is one of the most important ports of Italy. It is famous for its Riviera, situated all along the coast of the Region Liguria. The climate is warm in winter and windy and sunny in summer.

TypicalTypical dishes dishes are Pesto Sauce, main ingredient basil, Farinata, main ingredient chickpeas,

a particular kind of bread called Focaccia, that Genoese people use to have as a snack.

Besides many different dishes of pasta, as pansoti, ravioli and trofie, and fish & meat as you can enjoy.

Genova was founded in the 6 th B.C. by Ligurians, maybe its name comes from an ancient hero, called Janus, escaped from Troy, landed on the Ligurian coast.

In the early seventhies Genova was a very important industrial city, but in the last decades is going to change its economy.

Walking around Genova you can find the old buildings coming from its golden age of commerce, since the 16th century.

You can enjoy visiting the aquarium and the Expo area designed by Renzo Piano …

… or go trekking along the paths, among the fortresses, up to the hills. You can visit the old town and its narrow streets and monuments or take a lift to go up, where you can have a sight of the landscape around and where our school is.

M. Mazzini Primary School was built in 1893. It is located at the foot of the route to the hill, over the city centre and the ancient port

• It is a state school, part of the “Istituto Comprensivo Castelletto”, which consists of two kindergartens (Bertani and S. Paolo), another primary (S. Paolo) and a secondary school (S. Paolo)

• The primary schools have three different courses, which have 5 classes each: 28 hours per week, 40 hours per week and a Maria Montessori course (27 hours per week)

• The infant schools ( 8 classes) last 40 hours per week, the secondary school 30 ( 9 classes).

• There are nearly 550 pupils who attend M. Mazzini and nearly 1150 in the whole institut.

Our teaching teamsOur teaching teams• In the secondary school, teachers teach 18 hours per

week, the same subjects or group of subjects, like maths and science or Italian and history/geography in different classes.

• In the primary school teachers teach 22 hours per week and work 2 hours more for planning. In 40 hours classes there are 2 or more teachers, who share the subjects. In 28 hours classes and M. Montessori corses there’s just one teacher teaching most of subjects and one or two teachers to complete.

• In the infant school there are two teachers per class, they work 25 hours per week.
