Last time you looked at the images of Greek art, and identified recurring motifs and looked at the difference between a whole piece of art and a detail.

A recurring motif is a subject, a figure, a theme, an idea, a shape, a colour scheme or a pattern that is used again and again.

Greek Mythology is a collection of stories from Ancient Greece. These stories are about:

Gods & Goddesses such as Aphrodite, Zeus or the Titans.

Detail, Theseus and the Minotaur Athenian black-figure vase, ca. 550 BC

Heroes & Heroines such as Odysseus, Theseus, and Ariadne

Lovers & Legends for example the legend of Echo and Narcissus, and the story of Eros and Psyche

Creatures & Chimerae the monsters of Greek mythology - the Sphinx, Medusa, and the Chimera

In your sketch book you are going to draw a detail of a piece of Greek art showing a monster.

Use your viewfinder to select a detail.Copy the detail into your sketchbook.

Try to copy the original piece of art as carefully as possible and add in all the details.

We will be using this drawing for a special class project.

Once you have drawn the detail in your sketch book we are going to enlarge it using a square grid.

We will combine all your monsters into a Greek frieze to decorate the walls for the Halloween party.
